Additional Tests

Cadenzahgold Golden Retrievers (ANKC) conducts 8 additional tests available for the Golden Retriever.

dna iconGenetic Test

Dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (DEB) is a congenital skin disease that causes fragile skin, blisters, ulceration, and skin scarring. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

dna iconGenetic Test

This is a disease affecting the spinal cord of older dogs, initially causing wobbliness and eventually hindlimb paralysis. It can affect a wide range of breeds. There is now a DNA test that can indicated if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.

stethoscope iconPhysical Test

A heart certificate indicates that a breeding dog has been screened for heart disease such as DCM or MMVD. Auscultation alone is only accepted as a screening method if performed by a veterinary cardiologist or a GP vet certifying an OFA Basic Cardiac Screen. Echocardiography is an accepted screening method via GP or cardiologist.

dna iconGenetic Test

This is a serious genetic skin disease that causes flaky dry skin and footpad problems. It can occur in many breeds but is fairly common in Golden Retrievers. There is a DNA test to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this disease and could pass it on to their puppies.

dna iconGenetic Test

Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL) is a neurodegenerative disorder found in many breeds of dog. 7 varieties have been identified so far, affecting different breeds. There are DNA tests for each type, to identify whether a breeding dog might be carrying this condition.

dna iconGenetic Test

Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), also known as ‘brittle bone disease’, is an inherited disease in both humans and animals, causing bone fragility and fracturing. As it is a genetic disease, breeding parents can be tested to ensure it is not passed onto their puppies.

dna iconGenetic Test

Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) in dogs is a type of genetic eye disease causing deterioration of the retina and eventually, blindness. There are a variety of sub-types of PRA, which can occur in various breeds. There are various DNA tests available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

dna iconGenetic Test

Skeletal Dysplasia is an inherited form of dwarfism which causes the leg bones to grow much shorter than is proportional for the body. Affected legs will be short and slightly bowed outwards. Often the forelimbs are more affected than the hindlimbs, which can make the condition more difficult to spot in subtle cases. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

All of our puppies are vet checked by vets and health certificates supplied at point of sale. Pups are also micro-chipped and vaccinated at 6 weeks of age, regularly wormed and are sent home registered on the limited register with Dogs Victoria (not for breeding or export unless negotiated prior to the litter being bred.) All puppies are sent home with an extremely comprehensive information package that includes a copy of a Golden Retriever specific Puppy Book (read more about the book here - https://camuka.com/puppy-book), a second booklet 'Puppy Fitness that Fits the Puppy - Age Appropriate Guidelines', by Jane Messineo Lindquist that provides week by week advice on how to exercise your puppy through to 2 years of age, about a month’s supply of quality Royal Canin kibble, six weeks pre-paid insurance, toys, blanket, clicker for training, guide sheets for fermenting vegetables and kefir as well as all the guarantees provided by an ethical registered breeder including adherence to the Dogs Victoria Code of Practice (a copy of this document is available for download here: https://dogsvictoria.org.au/members/members-area/members-resources/code-of-practice/code-of-practice-information-booklet.html.) We ensure that all puppies are in the best possible state of both physical and mental health at point of sale. Where there are known physical abnormalities (a rare occurrence), a health declaration is provided with the puppy at point of sale that explains how the abnormality may affect the future health and welfare of the puppy/dog and we will commit to providing ongoing practical and financial support for the health issue as necessary. We are also happy to take back the puppy and provide a refund to 75% of the purchase price for any puppy returned to us within 3 days of sale, for any reason not supported by a statement from a veterinary practitioner. Where a puppy or dog is returned within 21 days of sale accompanied by a statement from a veterinary practitioner that the animal is unacceptable for health reasons, we will take back the puppy and provide a 100% refund of purchase price. In addition to the above, if one of our puppies or dogs is diagnosed with, suffering from, dies of, or is euthanased from a physical defect or disease that is directly traceable to the point of sale within 3 years of purchase, subject to the owner making veterinary reports and test results available to us, an us obtaining a second veterinary opinion supporting the physical defect or disease, we will refund 100% of the purchase price. Potential new owners are more than welcome to come visit us and meet the dogs, with puppy meetings starting from when the puppies are around 6 weeks of age. Puppies are not allocated to homes until they have passed their vet checks at 6 weeks. Please contact Dogs Victoria on email: office@dogsvictoria.org.au to verify my membership
