Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
Behaviour starts first and foremost with the parent dogs and the puppies first few weeks of life. I think sometimes as breeders these first few weeks can be overlooked, as newborn puppies are quite helpless and not yet up and running on their own four paws. I make sure to start early, I place crucial importance on…
Health
AuroraWolf is dedicated to help improve this beautiful breed. Unfortunately here in Australia due to the original small gene pools and use of linebreeding, the rough collie breed developed a few concerning health issues. Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA) is among one of the most common issues presenting in collies worldwide…
Home environment
AuroraWolf pride ourselves on providing a loving, clean environment for all our beautiful dogs. Our puppies are raised inside until about 4 weeks of age. They then transition to a private controlled puppy area with shelter and grass within view and close proximity to the house, along with their mother from 4-8 weeks…
Included with our puppies
With AuroraWolf, I wanted to create not just the opportunity to get a beautiful rough collie puppy, but to get lots of support and useful information and equipment to help transition owners and puppy's into their new homes. We are excited to include: sample packet of the biscuits we feed ‘Meals for Mutts’, coat care…

Additional Tests
Aurora Wolf Rough Collies conducts 7 additional tests available for the Collie (Rough).
Genetic Test
This is a genetic disease affecting the skin, muscles and blood vessels. It can occur in various Collie breeds. There is a DNA "risk assessment" test available to determine if a breeding dog is low, moderate or high risk, to help breeders with breed pairings and matings.
Physical Test
An eye certificate means the breeder has had their breeding dogs examined by a veterinary ophthalmologist, to confirm they are not affected by any eye conditions which may be passed down genetically to their puppies. If relevant for the breed, it also includes running DNA tests to confirm the dog is not a genetic carrier of hereditary eye diseases, such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA). It includes breeders who have participated in the Australian Canine Eye Scheme (ACES).
Genetic Test
Also known as Canine Cyclic Neutropaenia, Grey Collie Syndrome is a stem cell disorder causing dangerously low white blood cell counts in affected Collies. It is accompanied by a much lighter coloured coat than usual. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
The MDR-1 gene (Multi-drug Resistance Gene 1) is responsible for producing proteins that protect the brain from harmful chemicals. Some breeds have a mutation in this gene resulting in them being dangerously sensitive to certain chemicals and drugs. It is recommended to test these breeding dogs for the MDR-1 mutation, so they do not pass on the sensitivity to their puppies.
Genetic Test
Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) in dogs is a type of genetic eye disease causing deterioration of the retina and eventually, blindness. There are a variety of sub-types of PRA, which can occur in various breeds. There are various DNA tests available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
Recurrent inflammatory pulmonary disease (RIPD) is a rare disease affecting Collies. It causes recurrent respiratory illness, with coughing, nasal discharge, and shallow breathing. Affected dogs often respond to veterinary treatment but signs may recur in the future and require life-long therapy. There is a DNA test available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
Von Willebrand’s Disease (VWD/vWD) is a genetic bleeding disorder caused by a lack of a specific clotting factor. There are three forms of the disease, types 1, 2 & 3. A DNA test is available for each type of VWD to identify whether a breeding dog is a carrier or might be affected. The severity of VWD varies widely between breeds and individuals, ranging from life threatening, through to having no impact on clotting ability.

About the Breeder
A little about us
My name is Hannah, I share a very deep love for animals, specifically dogs. I had always dreamed of owning a rough collie, which I had the privilege of owning my first in 2020. Fast forward 6 years I am able to make that dream happen for others, one collie at a time💙🖤
Why we got involved in breeding
It fills me with so much joy surrounding myself with my beautiful pack, as well as making this beautiful relatively uncommon breed in Australia, accessible to more families 💙🖤
Our special touch
I believe that people who breed, need a very strong connection, bond and overall love for these dogs. Everything thereafter is an act of love.🐾
