Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
Our puppies are raised in our bedroom with access outside into a courtyard so that they learn to go outside to do their business.

All of our breeding dogs have been DNA tested for available health tests and are eye tested Annually. Our puppies are wormed, vaccinated, DNA tested to confirm their parentage, microchipped, and also eye tested.
Home environment
Whelped inside, Acreage property/rural property, Raised indoor and outdoors. They are raised in my bedroom so I can meet their needs and at 5 weeks of age they are moved to a puppy pen with access out into our courtyard.

Additional Tests
Babetal Miniature Schnauzers conducts 4 additional tests available for the Miniature Schnauzer.
Physical Test
An eye certificate means the breeder has had their breeding dogs examined by a veterinary ophthalmologist, to confirm they are not affected by any eye conditions which may be passed down genetically to their puppies. If relevant for the breed, it also includes running DNA tests to confirm the dog is not a genetic carrier of hereditary eye diseases, such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA). It includes breeders who have participated in the Australian Canine Eye Scheme (ACES).
Physical Test
A heart certificate indicates that a breeding dog has been screened for heart disease such as DCM or MMVD. Auscultation alone is only accepted as a screening method if performed by a veterinary cardiologist or a GP vet certifying an OFA Basic Cardiac Screen. Echocardiography is an accepted screening method via GP or cardiologist.
Genetic Test
Myotonia Hereditaria/Congenita is a genetic disease that causes muscle problems resulting in a stiff gait and difficulty swallowing. There is a DNA test available to identify whether a breeding dog might be carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
Spondylocostal Dysostosis (SD, or ‘Comma Defect’), is a genetic growth disorder causing spinal and rib malformations. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

About the Breeder
A little about us
I am a Schnauzerholic. Our first Miniature Schnauzer came into our lives in 1988. We were looking for a sturdy little dog which was good with Children. Babette arrived when Warrick was 2 and Keith was a new baby. I also worked for Family Daycare and her temperament could not be faulted. Babette taught me a lot as…
Why we got involved in breeding
There are many cross bred/designer dogs out there but we believed that if we were going to Breed it should be done properly. That also including grooming our own dogs and Showing them.
Our special touch
We have an enduring commitment to the puppies we bring into the world. Prior to Covid we used to run 6 Schnauzer Picnics a year. 4 in Brisbane and 3 on the Gold Coast. Covid made this difficult but there were others who continued the activities and we are now able to attend as Community Members. It helps us to…
