Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
Our dogs are very much part of our family, travel on holidays with us and share our home. We support the soundness/ temperament of the breed to ensure they are well ajusted and confident to tackle any new experiences. During their vital first few weeks, pups are weighed each day, handled, introduced to household…
Health
Our puppies will all have had their first vaccination, microchip, and are wormed every 2 weeks before coming home with you. All our puppies will have passed their health check at the vet before coming home with you. We strongly focus on the genetics to improve the health of our dogs by eliminating certain diseases…
Home environment
Our puppies are born and raised in our family home. Our dogs live in a weather protected, temperature controlled area. Our puppies are born indoors but also have access to outdoor play and activities. We pride ourselves on providing our puppies with a range of socialisation opportunities.
Included with our puppies
All our puppies are registered with Dogs NSW and before they enter their new family environment, we work hard to make the transition as smooth as possible for our little ones.

Additional Tests
Dedouble Rough Collies conducts 6 additional tests available for the Collie (Rough).
Genetic Test
This is a genetic disease affecting the skin, muscles and blood vessels. It can occur in various Collie breeds. There is a DNA "risk assessment" test available to determine if a breeding dog is low, moderate or high risk, to help breeders with breed pairings and matings.
Genetic Test
Also known as Canine Cyclic Neutropaenia, Grey Collie Syndrome is a stem cell disorder causing dangerously low white blood cell counts in affected Collies. It is accompanied by a much lighter coloured coat than usual. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
The MDR-1 gene (Multi-drug Resistance Gene 1) is responsible for producing proteins that protect the brain from harmful chemicals. Some breeds have a mutation in this gene resulting in them being dangerously sensitive to certain chemicals and drugs. It is recommended to test these breeding dogs for the MDR-1 mutation, so they do not pass on the sensitivity to their puppies.
Genetic Test
Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) in dogs is a type of genetic eye disease causing deterioration of the retina and eventually, blindness. There are a variety of sub-types of PRA, which can occur in various breeds. There are various DNA tests available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
Recurrent inflammatory pulmonary disease (RIPD) is a rare disease affecting Collies. It causes recurrent respiratory illness, with coughing, nasal discharge, and shallow breathing. Affected dogs often respond to veterinary treatment but signs may recur in the future and require life-long therapy. There is a DNA test available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
Von Willebrand’s Disease (VWD/vWD) is a genetic bleeding disorder caused by a lack of a specific clotting factor. There are three forms of the disease, types 1, 2 & 3. A DNA test is available for each type of VWD to identify whether a breeding dog is a carrier or might be affected. The severity of VWD varies widely between breeds and individuals, ranging from life threatening, through to having no impact on clotting ability.
