Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
At Haus of Long Dogs, socialisation is one of the most important parts of how we raise our puppies. Because we are a small, in-home breeder, our puppies are immersed in everyday family life from the very beginning. They are raised inside our home, not in kennels, which allows them to experience normal household…
Health
At Haus of Long Dogs, the health and wellbeing of our dogs is our highest priority and the foundation of our breeding program. Our breeding dogs are first and foremost beloved family members, and their physical and emotional wellbeing is carefully nurtured at every stage of life. Before being considered for our…
Home environment
At Haus of Long Dogs, our dogs and puppies are raised exactly where they belong — inside our home, as part of our family. They are not kept in kennels or outdoor facilities. Our adult dogs sleep comfortably indoors in designated sleeping areas within the home, surrounded by the familiar sounds, routines, and comfort…
Included with our puppies
At Haus of Long Dogs, every puppy goes home with a thoughtfully prepared puppy pack to help make the transition into their new family as smooth and comforting as possible. Each pack includes a soft blanket that carries the familiar scent of mum and littermates, helping your puppy settle into their new home with…

Additional Tests
Haus of Long Dogs conducts 4 additional tests available for the Miniature Dachshund.
Genetic Test
Mucopolysaccharidosis is a genetic lysosomal storage disease that can cause various problems including stunted growth and bone deformities. There are a few different variants of this disease that have been identified in different breeds. For many breeds there are DNA tests available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying the condition.
Genetic Test
Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL) is a neurodegenerative disorder found in many breeds of dog. 7 varieties have been identified so far, affecting different breeds. There are DNA tests for each type, to identify whether a breeding dog might be carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), also known as ‘brittle bone disease’, is an inherited disease in both humans and animals, causing bone fragility and fracturing. As it is a genetic disease, breeding parents can be tested to ensure it is not passed onto their puppies.
Genetic Test
Sarcoglycan Deficient Muscular Dystrophy (SDMD) is a genetic disease causing a stiff gait, exercise intolerance and difficulty swallowing in young Miniature Dachshunds. There is now a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.
