Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
Here at Alaula Tenterfield Terriers we take raising our puppies for the right forever homes very seriously. It is this reason why we have decided to keep all our puppies until a minimum of 10 weeks of age and depending on how the puppies are faring, it could be extended till 12 weeks. Why do you keep them for so…
Health
As responsible breeders we are obligated by the ANKC code of Practice to do all we can to identify and eliminate inheritable diseases and we do this by making informed breeding choices through testing our dams and sires for these genetic diseases. Genetic testing is available for the screening of breeding animals, so…
Home environment
We raise our pups in our house so we are constantly in touch with the pups. The mum has easy access to the pups and can socialise with the family. We have a backyard and play pen for outside time. Our dogs are never left outside.

Genetic Test
Black Hair Follicular Dysplasia (BHFD) is a genetic condition causing hair loss of black and brown regions of the coat. It is linked to the ‘dilute’ colour gene and can affect many tri-coloured or bi-coloured dogs. Affected dogs are prone to developing skin infections. There is a DNA test available to identify breeding dogs that are carrying BHFD.
Genetic Test
Congenital Hypothyroidism with Goitre (CHG) is a genetic type of hypothyroidism that can be found in Fox Terriers, English Toy Terriers and Tenterfield Terriers. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
This is a disease affecting the spinal cord of older dogs, initially causing wobbliness and eventually hindlimb paralysis. It can affect a wide range of breeds. There is now a DNA test that can indicated if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.

About the Breeder
A little about us
Peter and I had the experience in raising a beautiful pup which had generalised anxiety disorder (GAD). We understand that when dogs have a condition, it can be difficult to raise. This is why we based Alaula Tenterfield Terriers on breeding for temperament and socialisation.
Why we got involved in breeding
Everything we do now for our dogs, is in memory of our beautiful Tin-Tin. Our love for the Tenterfield Terrier breed started 17 years ago with a beautiful rusty headed dog call Tin-Tin. He wove his way into our hearts all those years ago and started a legacy of all things Tenterfield Terriers, in our family. Many…
Our special touch
We do show some of our dogs but the most important thing for us at Alaula Tenterfield Terriers is the temperament of the dogs. Our main focus and concentration is to create an environment which enables our pups to be raised with as much stability and cement their temperament so they are ready for their forever homes.
