Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
We live on a farm and I take all our puppies out for rides in the car so they are used to different surroundings and are crate trained and well socialised around people in busy places, such as in our local shopping centre. I desensitise them to the usual household noises, play music and the radio and they hear all…
Health
We health test all our breeding dogs for a minimum of ataxia, hip & elbow dysplasia as well as cardiac tested by a registered CARDIOLOGIST and regularly vet checks. All puppies will be vaccinated, wormed & microchipped. We feed a mainly raw vegetable diet mixed with premium kibble.
Home environment
We are located just over an hour south of Adelaide on 75 acres. Our puppies are raised inside the house and weather dependent, will go outside around 5-7 weeks of age. We have set up dedicated areas for sleep, play and toilet training. Outside we have large 12m x 3m long kennel runs. During breeding I will take…
Included with our puppies
All available puppies will be sold on limited registration and occasionally we will look at promising youngsters to go to show homes. We offer 6 week puppy insurance, an information booklet containing a copy of pedigree, microchip details, pictures of the Dam and Sire and declaration paper requesting to desex by 12…
Health Tests
Core Tests(1/1)
Amstafomine American Staffordshire Terriers conducts 1 out of 1 core health tests which RightPaw believe are most important to conduct for the American Staffordshire Terrier.
Hip Dysplasia
Physical Test
These breeders have had x-rays taken on their breeding dogs to assess their ‘hip score’. Dogs with…

Additional Tests
Amstafomine American Staffordshire Terriers conducts 3 additional tests available for the American Staffordshire Terrier.
Physical Test
These breeders have had x-rays taken on their breeding dogs to assess the quality of their elbow joints. Dogs with very low ‘elbow scores’ are less likely to develop elbow problems in the future and less likely to pass hereditary elbow problems on to their puppies.
Genetic Test
Hyperuricosuria (HUU) is a genetic disease that causes a build-up of uric acid in the urine, predisposing to painful bladder and kidney stones. It can occur in a range of breeds. There is a DNA test available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this disease.
Physical Test
A heart certificate indicates that a breeding dog has been screened for heart disease such as DCM or MMVD. Auscultation alone is only accepted as a screening method if performed by a veterinary cardiologist or a GP vet certifying an OFA Basic Cardiac Screen. Echocardiography is an accepted screening method via GP or cardiologist.

About the Breeder
A little about us
My name is Deborah Hughes and my obsession with showing and breeding dogs started in 1986 when I purchased a Bull Terrier bitch. I titled her with ease and gained multi In Group and In Show awards. This gave me the "Show Bug"! Today, I have bred and titled many Amstaffs and also won multiple Best in Show awards at…
Why we got involved in breeding
In 2005 my husband, Clive, claimed he wanted an 'Amstaff'. My love for Bull Terriers was still strong and we did not see eye to eye! Unbeknown to me, he purchased a puppy from my now close friend. Maddison was bought as a 'pet' as I was into showing horses at that time and I was no longer interested in competing…
Our special touch
Aside from breeding dogs, I was a keen equestrian competitor from the age of ten. We bred and owned Riding Ponies, Paints, Welsh Ponies & Thoroughbreds. I bred & owned several horses that have won at Royal & National levels but today, due to health issues, have had to move away from riding & breeding horses.
