Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
We believe that the experiences a puppy has while growing up are an important part of their development, helping them become confident and comfortable in the next chapter of their lives. Our puppies are raised in our family home, where they meet a range of adults, children and other animals. They are exposed to…
Health
Our puppies are wormed every two weeks. At six to seven weeks of age, each puppy receives a veterinary health check and is microchipped and vaccinated. Both parents are DNA-tested through Orivet.
Home environment
Born and raised in our home, our puppies grow up with exposure to the hustle and bustle of a busy household. We live on a small acreage, where they are introduced to other animals and become familiar with the sights, sounds and smells of farm life. We provide our puppies with a stimulating environment where they…
Included with our puppies
Our puppies leave with some familiar items to help make the transition to their new home a little easier. Each puppy comes with a blanket carrying their mum’s familiar scent, a bag of the puppy food they are currently eating, a toy, all relevant veterinary paperwork, and a collar and lead.

Genetic Test
Acral Mutilation Syndrome (AMS) is a genetic disease that causes affected dogs to compulsively lick, overgroom and bite their paws. This can cause recurrent injuries and infections. The condition can be extreme and even result in the dog being euthanised if the signs cannot be controlled.
Genetic Test
Bernard-Soulier Syndrome (BSS) is a genetic bleeding disorder caused by abnormally large platelets in low numbers, meaning an affected animal cannot form clots properly after tissue damage. It can lead to life-threatening bleeding issues following surgery or injury. There is a DNA test available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC) is a genetic condition mainly affecting Retrievers and Spaniels. It results in the dog collapsing after periods of intense exercise, even if they are normally able to cope with lower levels of exercise. There is a DNA test available which can indicate if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.
Genetic Test
Canine Phosphofructokinase (PFK) Deficiency is a genetic disease resulting in low levels of the PFK enzyme. It can result in extreme muscle fatigue, muscle cramping and severe anaemia. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

About the Breeder
A little about us
Here at Bluegum Cocker Spaniels and Spanadors we have predominantly been breeding spanadors over the last few years. We decided to include pure cocker spaniels to our breeding program as we love the wonderful, funny, character of the cocker spaniel as well as their super loving nature. We are a small breeder…
Why we got involved in breeding
My parents bred Labradors, so animals and breeding were part of my life from an early age. I have always loved animals, and growing up around my parents’ dogs is where my own love of raising puppies began.
Our special touch
At Bluegum, our dogs are part of our family for life. When our girls retire from breeding, they remain here with us on the farm as much-loved members of the family, enjoying bush walks and the freedom to run in the paddocks. Our puppies receive the same family-centred care, while also benefiting from the sights,…
