Behaviour and socialisation

Our puppies are known for their outgoing and friendly personalities, which makes them a popular choice as a pet. They respond well to different stimuli including physical, visual, and auditory, which helps in their socialisation process. Exposure to other animals and people, both children and adults, is important…

Additional Tests

Brayroan English Cocker Spaniels conducts 7 additional tests available for the Cocker Spaniel.

dna iconGenetic Test

Acral Mutilation Syndrome (AMS) is a genetic disease that causes affected dogs to compulsively lick, overgroom and bite their paws. This can cause recurrent injuries and infections. The condition can be extreme and even result in the dog being euthanised if the signs cannot be controlled.

dna iconGenetic Test

This is a rare genetic disease affecting Cocker Spaniels. It can cause wobbliness and incoordination in the hindlimbs, with eventual progression to paralysis and difficulty breathing. It usually only affects older dogs and progression is slow over several years. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

dna iconGenetic Test

Bernard-Soulier Syndrome (BSS) is a genetic bleeding disorder caused by abnormally large platelets in low numbers, meaning an affected animal cannot form clots properly after tissue damage. It can lead to life-threatening bleeding issues following surgery or injury. There is a DNA test available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

dna iconGenetic Test

Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC) is a genetic condition mainly affecting Retrievers and Spaniels. It results in the dog collapsing after periods of intense exercise, even if they are normally able to cope with lower levels of exercise. There is a DNA test available which can indicate if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.

stethoscope iconPhysical Test

These breeders have had x-rays taken on their breeding dogs to assess the quality of their elbow joints. Dogs with very low ‘elbow scores’ are less likely to develop elbow problems in the future and less likely to pass hereditary elbow problems on to their puppies.

stethoscope iconPhysical Test

An eye certificate means the breeder has had their breeding dogs examined by a veterinary ophthalmologist, to confirm they are not affected by any eye conditions which may be passed down genetically to their puppies. If relevant for the breed, it also includes running DNA tests to confirm the dog is not a genetic carrier of hereditary eye diseases, such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA). It includes breeders who have participated in the Australian Canine Eye Scheme (ACES).

dna iconGenetic Test

Canine Phosphofructokinase (PFK) Deficiency is a genetic disease resulting in low levels of the PFK enzyme. It can result in extreme muscle fatigue, muscle cramping and severe anaemia. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

About the Breeder

A little about us

Brayroan Cocker Spaniels has been established since 2010. I have been successfully exhibiting and breeding since 2010. As a retired Veterinary Nurse and a current Accredited Orivet DNA Collector, I am passionate about the health and well being of our breed. We breed our English Cocker Spaniels for health,…

Why we got involved in breeding

We strive to improve & preserve the breed. Spending hours studying pedigrees and planning our next litter.

Our special touch

My puppies have 24/7 supervision. Once they are born I spend all my time in caring for both the litter and Dam. It is a critical period from birth onward. I will have many sleepless nights next to mum & babies to ensure their survival. They are all part of our family.
