Health Tests

VWD
Genetic Test
Von Willebrand’s Disease (VWD/vWD) is a genetic bleeding disorder caused by a lack of a specific…

Additional Tests
Cabochon Dobermanns conducts 5 additional tests available for the Dobermann.
Genetic Test
Bilateral deafness is a form of congenital deafness caused by the MYO7A gene. It was first reported in Dobermans and there is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
Coat Dilution Alopecia (CDA) causes a problem with hair follicles, resulting in patchy hair loss in young adult dogs. The hair does not grow back and can predispose the skin to infections. The gene causing CDA is linked with dilute coat colours and is most common in blue Dobermans. Not every dilute coloured dog will develop CDA. There is a DNA test available to help to predict whether a breeding dog might pass on this condition.
Genetic Test
Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a heart disease causing an enlarged heart with stretched heart muscle. Affected dogs are high risk of developing life-threatening heart failure as the abnormal heart cannot beat as effectively. There is a genetic test in some breeds to show if a breeding dog is predisposed to DCM.
Genetic Test
Malignant Hyperthermia (MH) is a rare genetic condition that causes adverse reactions to anaesthetic drugs. It results in the body rapidly overheating and is sometimes fatal. There is now a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
Narcolepsy is a genetic disease which causes affected animals to fall asleep suddenly following periods of excitement, such a feeding or play. These dogs might collapse and appear drowsy or might completely fall asleep. They usually grow out of the condition after about one year of age. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

About the Breeder
A little about us
Over 50 years of breeding and showing Dobermanns and 40 years as an International Judge the last 25 as an all breeds judge. My dogs are not only beautiful they have excellent temperaments, longevity and good health.
Why we got involved in breeding
My mother showed and bred English Cocker Spaniels when I was a young child, so I got my love of dogs very young.
Our special touch
Great knowledge of the breed due to my judging assignments. Attended symposiums overseas, studied health problems in the breed.
