The Cocker's were not a planned breed for me, I went to purchase another Cavoodle and when I saw Maddy I fell in love and I couldn't leave without her. I spoke to all a couple of vet friends about the breed and friends who had owned them and I knew this breed was right for me. Maddy's loving nature towards people is…

Behaviour and socialisation

We live on a small property where we run an equine business. All our dogs are exposed to various animals, Horses, Cattle, Cats and other dogs. We do go away often for horse events and all our dogs get a turn coming away with us so they are exposed to crowds, other dogs, lots of noises and the coming and going of…

Health

All our parent dogs are DNA tested and each get regular vet checks mostly prior to breeding so we get the all clear for our girls before we go ahead with any planned matings.

Home environment

We have almost 80 acres for the dogs to run on, they also get walks and since I work at home they have regular ball play and dam swims in the warmer months. We have two young children that love to play with the dogs.

Acral Mutilation Syndrome (AMS) is a genetic disease that causes affected dogs to compulsively lick, overgroom and bite their paws. This can cause recurrent injuries and infections. The condition can be extreme and even result in the dog being euthanised if the signs cannot be controlled.

dna iconGenetic Test

This is a rare genetic disease affecting Cocker Spaniels. It can cause wobbliness and incoordination in the hindlimbs, with eventual progression to paralysis and difficulty breathing. It usually only affects older dogs and progression is slow over several years. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

dna iconGenetic Test

Bernard-Soulier Syndrome (BSS) is a genetic bleeding disorder caused by abnormally large platelets in low numbers, meaning an affected animal cannot form clots properly after tissue damage. It can lead to life-threatening bleeding issues following surgery or injury. There is a DNA test available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC) is a genetic condition mainly affecting Retrievers and Spaniels. It results in the dog collapsing after periods of intense exercise, even if they are normally able to cope with lower levels of exercise. There is a DNA test available which can indicate if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.
