Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
We train in ENS for all of our puppies. They are exposed to all sorts of textures very early on including floor boards, carpets, concrete, decking, dirt, grass and water. Our pups will start their crate training and most have completed their training before leaving Coffee Kennels. They will be learning to sit for…
Health
All Coffee Kennels parents must have above average hip and elbow scores. They must be DNA clear for breed specific defects, and all of our parents are pre and post pregnancy vet checked to ensure optimum health.
Home environment
Our dogs are our pets, and live their life with us that way. They sleep inside at night and have large yards to socialise and play in. When pregnant they spend their time inside with us in air conditioned/ heated comfort.
Included with our puppies
Included with all Coffee Kennels puppies is 6 weeks of pet insurance, a 3 year health guarantee, microchip, vaccination, an extended puppy pack including a 3kg bag of BlackHawk puppy kibble, as well as on going support for the life of your pup.

Genetic Test
Congenital eye malformations in Golden Retrievers result from a mutation of the SIX6 gene. These malformations can present as a range of different eye conditions, ranging from poor vision to blindness in one or both eyes. There is a DNA test available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying the affected gene.
Genetic Test
Dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (DEB) is a congenital skin disease that causes fragile skin, blisters, ulceration, and skin scarring. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
This is a disease affecting the spinal cord of older dogs, initially causing wobbliness and eventually hindlimb paralysis. It can affect a wide range of breeds. There is now a DNA test that can indicated if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.
Genetic Test
This is a serious genetic skin disease that causes flaky dry skin and footpad problems. It can occur in many breeds but is fairly common in Golden Retrievers. There is a DNA test to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this disease and could pass it on to their puppies.
Genetic Test
Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL) is a neurodegenerative disorder found in many breeds of dog. 7 varieties have been identified so far, affecting different breeds. There are DNA tests for each type, to identify whether a breeding dog might be carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), also known as ‘brittle bone disease’, is an inherited disease in both humans and animals, causing bone fragility and fracturing. As it is a genetic disease, breeding parents can be tested to ensure it is not passed onto their puppies.
Genetic Test
Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) in dogs is a type of genetic eye disease causing deterioration of the retina and eventually, blindness. There are a variety of sub-types of PRA, which can occur in various breeds. There are various DNA tests available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
Skeletal Dysplasia is an inherited form of dwarfism which causes the leg bones to grow much shorter than is proportional for the body. Affected legs will be short and slightly bowed outwards. Often the forelimbs are more affected than the hindlimbs, which can make the condition more difficult to spot in subtle cases. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

About the Breeder
A little about us
My name is Greg. I love my dogs and I love my job! I am so privileged to be able to do what I do, and I take my responsibility of the care and wellbeing of my dogs very seriously. My dogs are all a part of our family. They are treated as pets, and not as breeding dogs. We have deliberately kept our business small…
Why we got involved in breeding
My name is Greg, and I have always had a love of animals. I was involved with horses as a young adult. It was a tough life working with horses and as my family started to form, I moved away from horses and built my career around Transport Management. Realising how much I missed animals being in my life I decided to…
