Behaviour and socialisation

Behaviour and socialisation are paramount to us at Digger Dachshunds. From early on, our puppies are exposed to a range of experiences. Once old enough, they interact with other dogs and people and they love the grandkids! The more relaxed and friendlier our pups are, the easier they settle in their new homes. …

Health

Our adult dogs have full DNA profiles, enabling us to make the very best choices for potential mates. This ensures our pups are healthy and disease free. Living in a cooler climate, we are lucky our place is free from fleas, ticks and mozzies so our dogs escape the preventative treatments that most dogs need. But…

Home environment

Raised in the family home, our dogs enjoy the best of both worlds – indoor coziness, (especially in winter), and outside the freedom of rural living. Pups are whelped and nurtured inside allowing us plenty of time to interact with them. It's not hard to waste many hours gazing at these little beauties. Our…

Mucopolysaccharidosis is a genetic lysosomal storage disease that can cause various problems including stunted growth and bone deformities. There are a few different variants of this disease that have been identified in different breeds. For many breeds there are DNA tests available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying the condition.

dna iconGenetic Test

Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL) is a neurodegenerative disorder found in many breeds of dog. 7 varieties have been identified so far, affecting different breeds. There are DNA tests for each type, to identify whether a breeding dog might be carrying this condition.

dna iconGenetic Test

Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), also known as ‘brittle bone disease’, is an inherited disease in both humans and animals, causing bone fragility and fracturing. As it is a genetic disease, breeding parents can be tested to ensure it is not passed onto their puppies.

About the Breeder

A little about us

While dachshunds have always been in the family, Jim and I were a bit slow to realise how wonderful these dogs are. Now we are totally smitten, our dogs keep us entertained every day are all very special to us.

Why we got involved in breeding

Our daughters were responsible for getting us involved with the breed. They had been dachshund fanciers for quite a few years and once we got to know just how delightful dachshunds are, there was no going back! They're clever, opinionated, love to interact with you and definitely have a sense of humour.

Our special touch

Our dogs have plenty of room to run amok in a very large house yard. Conformation and temperament are paramount to us. We pride ourselves on breeding dogs with excellent structure, strong limbed and a good brain to go with it. A good pet home is always our first choice when placing pups. Come visit and get to…
