Our Breeding Practices

Behaviour and socialisation

Our puppies as raised with ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation), then Puppy Culture protocols, exposing them to many people, sounds, surfaces, sights, obstacles and even environments. We do everything in our power to set them up for a life of success.

Health

All of my own dogs are extensively health tested and are only bred from if they pass all of the following; BAER (hearing), hip scored, elbow scored, heart (echocardiograph), thyroid, eyes and DNA profiled.

Home environment

Our dogs live in the house with us in a home environment, not kennels as we don't think that this is where Dalmatians thrive. Our puppies are raised in a climate controlled 'whelping room', with room for them to expand and explore through their developmental stages, making it to an outside area designated for them to…

Health Tests

Core Tests(2/2)

Edelevlek Dalmatians conducts 2 out of 2 core health tests which RightPaw believe are most important to conduct for the Dalmatian.

Additional Tests

Edelevlek Dalmatians conducts 6 additional tests available for the Dalmatian.

dna iconGenetic Test

Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is a dangerous inflammatory lung condition. A genetic cause has been found in Dalmatians, which can be tested for with a blood test.

stethoscope iconPhysical Test

This is a type of hypothyroidism which can occur in any breed and can be caused by many different things. It is more common in some breeds compared to others, so in these breeds it is recommended that breeding dogs have a blood test to show they have normal thyroid levels at the time of breeding.

stethoscope iconPhysical Test

These breeders have had x-rays taken on their breeding dogs to assess the quality of their elbow joints. Dogs with very low ‘elbow scores’ are less likely to develop elbow problems in the future and less likely to pass hereditary elbow problems on to their puppies.

stethoscope iconPhysical Test

An eye certificate means the breeder has had their breeding dogs examined by a veterinary ophthalmologist, to confirm they are not affected by any eye conditions which may be passed down genetically to their puppies. If relevant for the breed, it also includes running DNA tests to confirm the dog is not a genetic carrier of hereditary eye diseases, such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA). It includes breeders who have participated in the Australian Canine Eye Scheme (ACES).

dna iconGenetic Test

Globoid Cell Leukodystrophy (GCL) is a genetic lysosomal storage disorder that causes neurological problems. It can affect several breeds including Cairn Terriers. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

dna iconGenetic Test

Hyperuricosuria (HUU) is a genetic disease that causes a build-up of uric acid in the urine, predisposing to painful bladder and kidney stones. It can occur in a range of breeds. There is a DNA test available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this disease.

Why we got involved in breeding

My pure obsession with Dalmatians led me from one thing to another, hence breeding was a natural progression. I absolutely love these beautiful and quirky dogs, each with so much joy to bring to each home. Hence breeding allows me to offer that joy into other homes also.

Our special touch

It is my goal as a Dalmatian breeder to firstly produce sound puppies with exceptional temperaments. Furthermore they must be correct to the Australian Dalmatian Standard with outstanding and correct movement, good balanced conformation, typey to my ideal and consistent throughout litters. I aim to produce both…
