Behaviour and socialisation

Our puppies are socialised in a variety of different ways including: • Spending a lot of time with the grandkids - kids, teenagers and adults. • Socialising with visitors to the property. • Indoor noises like: TV, music, vacuum cleaner. • Outdoor noises such as: lawn mowers, trucks, machinery, construction noises. …

Health

The parents are routinely checked at the vet for any health conditions, we only breed the healthiest dogs. We undertake a full DNA profile with Orivet of the sire and dam (parents), and we can provide these reports to you. Pups are given regular health checkups by the vet, microchipped, vaccinated and wormed.

Home environment

Our property is an acreage lot in the South-Western suburbs of Brisbane. The parents have their own areas, with mum having her own whelping pen/area. The pups have their own rest/sleeping areas, indoor play pens and a safe play area outside, that is fenced within our backyard.

There are a few different variants of this disease that have been identified in different breeds. For many breeds there are DNA tests available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying the condition.

Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL) is a neurodegenerative disorder found in many breeds of dog. 7 varieties have been identified so far, affecting different breeds. There are DNA tests for each type, to identify whether a breeding dog might be carrying this condition.

Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), also known as ‘brittle bone disease’, is an inherited disease in both humans and animals, causing bone fragility and fracturing. As it is a genetic disease, breeding parents can be tested to ensure it is not passed onto their puppies.

About the Breeder

A little about us

Hi, I am Garry, and my wife and I love dachshunds, in particular my wife - as her parents had many of them growing up in the family home, fell in love with them and we have been breeding them for 5 years after getting Frank (silver dapple) and Furt.

Why we got involved in breeding

We love the breed, and my wife had them as pets growing up. We want to be able to provide that same experience and joy to others out there that love and want a miniature dachshund.

Our special touch

We look after our sire, dams and puppies by regularly health checking them, providing them with large amounts of space (indoors and outdoors) to roam and socialise. We are also quite meticulous in who we sell to. We only want responsible owners that will love, cherish and socialise with their dachshunds.

READ CAREFULLY: A condition of us selling you a puppy is we require you to prove you have a second animal (another dog or cat for example) at your home. Dachshunds are social dogs and require to be with others. We do not want our pups to be left along for long parts of the day without a person or another animal friend to keep them company. Puppies are sent home with: • Health check from the vet, microchipping and first rounds of vaccinations. • Worming completed to 8 weeks, with their next worming tablet given to the buyer. • Blankets (that they have laid and played on). • A selection of toys. • Bowl • 5kg of their kibble for weaning. • 250ml container of home made food for weaning. • Home made food recipe should owners wish to make home made food. Transport: We welcome regional and interstate buyers, however please note the following: • Please inform us if you are a regional or interstate buyer at the time of your application, so we can discuss this further. • We are happy to sell to buyers living in other parts of QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC and SA. • We won't sell to buyers in WA, NT or TAS (sorry) - however it is quite a long trip that can cause enormous amounts of stress on the pups. • We prefer transporting pups on the road or making arrangements to meet halfway for you to pick up the puppy. • If we do need to send puppies via road transport via air (1) this will be additional cost to the applicant and (2) we will need to organise a fit to fly/travel certificate for the puppy (additional cost).
