Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
Joymont Kennels works on a combination of Australian, English and Swedish Bloodlines. We breed for type and temperament, trying for a quality dog that is outgoing, friendly and showy. All puppies are well socialised being raised in an active family environment.
Health
All puppies are Liver Shunt Tested (PSS), health checked, wormed, vaccinated, micro chipped, and paper trained. All parents are Von Willabrand tested.
Home environment
Here at Joymont the dogs live in a family atmosphere. We believe in keeping quality not quantity so that the dogs receive the greatest time and care, In Ashburton you will find the highest density of Cairns of anywhere in Australia.
Included with our puppies
We offer excellent follow up care and professional grooming on a continuous basis.

Genetic Test
Von Willebrand’s Disease (VWD/vWD) is a genetic bleeding disorder caused by a lack of a specific clotting factor. There are three forms of the disease, types 1, 2 & 3. A DNA test is available for each type of VWD to identify whether a breeding dog is a carrier or might be affected. The severity of VWD varies widely between breeds and individuals, ranging from life threatening, through to having no impact on clotting ability.

About the Breeder
A little about us
Hi, I'm Cathy, from Joymont Kennels! I'm a Canadian who first came to Australia in 1979 and purchased her first Cairn Birch from Betty Hart of Skyeway kennels in South Australia.
Why we got involved in breeding
I come from a three generation dog showing family. My grandfather bred and exhibited English Setters with his sisters breed and exhibited Irish Setters and English Cockers. My dad helped handle dogs from an early age but due to World War 2 and work commitments didn’t continue. My family was always given dogs over…
Our special touch
As well as showing regularly especially at the main Royal shows and Breed Specialties, I keep busy judging. I'm a licensed All Breeds Judge and as a Terrier Specialist she has judged Terrier specialties around the World.
