Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
Karyme Havanese pups are raised in my home, in the lounge room. They get used to household noises, other pets, people and being handled. They have a large play area where they are exposed to different surfaces, sounds, tunnels, etc, and these are changed daily. When pups are ready they are introduced to the outside…
Health
I health test to reduce the likelihood of problems. Our adults and pups are checked regularly by our Veterinarian (and our pups come with a health guarantee and a written vet check).
Home environment
All our dogs live as pets - they come and go from the house to the garden as they please, eat and sleep inside, and get individual attention. Puppies are raised inside and used to household activities and routines. They know what it is like to run full pelt around the garden, play with people and other dogs, and (of…

Additional Tests
Karyme Havanese conducts 2 additional tests available for the Havanese.
Physical Test
An eye certificate means the breeder has had their breeding dogs examined by a veterinary ophthalmologist, to confirm they are not affected by any eye conditions which may be passed down genetically to their puppies. If relevant for the breed, it also includes running DNA tests to confirm the dog is not a genetic carrier of hereditary eye diseases, such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA). It includes breeders who have participated in the Australian Canine Eye Scheme (ACES).
Physical Test
A heart certificate indicates that a breeding dog has been screened for heart disease such as DCM or MMVD. Auscultation alone is only accepted as a screening method if performed by a veterinary cardiologist or a GP vet certifying an OFA Basic Cardiac Screen. Echocardiography is an accepted screening method via GP or cardiologist.

About the Breeder
A little about us
My name is Gail and I am a Havanese exhibitor and breeder (under the prefix 'Karyme'), and all-round dog lover, located in SE NSW. My dogs are part of my family and live in my home, and my puppies are raised with love, care and plenty of one-on-one attention.
Why we got involved in breeding
I started my involvement in the dog world in dog rescue and dog sports. My first dogs were saved from pounds, and they have fun competing in obedience and agility. I was involved with dog rescue in the 2000's, and during this time, devoted much of my life to saving dogs that, through no fault of their own, ended up…
Our special touch
'Karyme' (pronounced CAR eh meh) is a Spanish name meaning 'the attractive one' - a very appropriate name for the gorgeous havanese! (plus a play on words - Havs love to be picked up and cuddled ;-) )
