With a wide variety of temperaments and drive (a dogs drive to work) that can be found within the cocker spaniel breed, it’s super important to me to maintain the strictest standards for my parent dogs, so that I…

Our Breeding Practices

Behaviour and socialisation

As a breeder, I aim for consistency in our litter’s temperaments. This means if I do my job well, we don’t have some super boisterous pups, and some super timid- they are all born with calm and curious dispositions. We don’t do anything fancy here, just good quality time handling and playing with our pups. Life on…

Health

When assessing the suitability of parent dogs as breeding prospects, our health requirements go beyond the standard DNA tests. None or our parent dogs have ever required veterinary attention for anything other then routine care. This includes no ear infections, allergies, special dietary requirements, skin conditions…

Home environment

Puppies are born inside our family home and spend their first few weeks being closely monitored, handled and individually cared for. When they are about 3 weeks old (and the seasons weather permitting) they transition to living outside in the house yard. This give’s them lots of opportunities to explore outdoors…

dna iconGenetic Test

Acral Mutilation Syndrome (AMS) is a genetic disease that causes affected dogs to compulsively lick, overgroom and bite their paws. This can cause recurrent injuries and infections. The condition can be extreme and even result in the dog being euthanised if the signs cannot be controlled.

dna iconGenetic Test

Bernard-Soulier Syndrome (BSS) is a genetic bleeding disorder caused by abnormally large platelets in low numbers, meaning an affected animal cannot form clots properly after tissue damage. It can lead to life-threatening bleeding issues following surgery or injury. There is a DNA test available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

dna iconGenetic Test

Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC) is a genetic condition mainly affecting Retrievers and Spaniels. It results in the dog collapsing after periods of intense exercise, even if they are normally able to cope with lower levels of exercise. There is a DNA test available which can indicate if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.

dna iconGenetic Test

Canine Phosphofructokinase (PFK) Deficiency is a genetic disease resulting in low levels of the PFK enzyme. It can result in extreme muscle fatigue, muscle cramping and severe anaemia. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
