Health Tests
Core Tests(0/1)
Melvatar Basset Hounds conducts 0 out of 1 core health tests which RightPaw believe are most important to conduct for the Basset Hound.
Additional Tests
Melvatar Basset Hounds conducts 3 additional tests available for the Basset Hound.
Genetic Test
Lafora Disease is a late-onset, inherited neurological disease that causes a form of progressive epilepsy. Affected dogs may develop muscle twitches, sensitivity to flashing lights or sudden sounds, and recurrent seizures that worsen over time. The condition is caused by the accumulation of abnormal carbohydrate deposits in nerve cells. A DNA test is available in certain breeds to identify carriers and reduce the risk of producing affected puppies
Genetic Test
Platelet Dysfunction, or Thrombopathia, is a genetic disorder causing abnormal functioning of platelets, which are cells required for blood clotting. Affected dogs might have problems forming blood clots, making them high risk for bleeding disorders, bruising and surgical complications. Severity can range from mild to life-threatening. There are now DNA tests available in a variety of affected breeds, to test if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
Primary Open Angle Glaucoma is an inherited eye disease that causes increased pressure within the eye, leading to pain and gradual vision loss. It develops when fluid inside the eye does not drain properly, and without treatment it can result in blindness. Signs may include redness, cloudiness, squinting, or sudden vision changes. A DNA test is available in certain breeds to identify dogs at risk and help guide responsible breeding decisions.
