Our Breeding Practices

Behaviour and socialisation

Puppies are exposed to many stimuli including visitors (adults and children); lawnmowers, birds, frogs, chickens, cats, and the different sounds of the neighbourhood. I keep bees as well, so the pups learn very quickly to stay away from the hives. It is the sound of the bees that makes the pups inquisitive. …

Health

The dogs are extremely healthy. They run around outside on the grass, play on the deck, and rest inside the home. The dogs are health screened for hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia. Careful consideration is also given to temperament development - so no rough play EVER. The pups are encouraged to play with toys. …

Home environment

Puppies grow up in a family environment. They are included in every ‘dog’ activity. Basic obedience is done in a positive and safe method using food as the reward. Food is used in the early part of training to consolidate the command. Toilet training is completed in the same manner.

About the Breeder

A little about us

Monssancta Saints are shown and handled by Ally Turnbull. Ally has been active in the breed for almost 30 years. She is currently the Secretary of the Saint Bernard Club of NSW.

Why we got involved in breeding

The Saint Bernard is certainly the most majestic of breeds. Weight for height, the Saint is the largest breed of canine. The best thing about a Saint is not having to bend down to pat them. Their head is always at my hand - waiting for the reassuring stoke on that big noggon, or the rub behind the ears. Saints…

Our special touch

My dogs are raised as part of the family. Everyone in the household gets to handle the dogs everyday. The dogs are friendly, they are not fearful of strangers - despite their big bark - they are gentle souls, and a pleasure to have around.
