Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
Our dogs are all a part of our family. While they live outside, they all spend time in the house and are in and out with each other and individually. Bernese are highly social and need interaction with their people every day.
Health
Our dogs are all fed high quality food with premium dry food and fresh meat. All the dogs used in our breeding program are hip and elbow tested (x-rayed).
Home environment
Our puppies are all raised in our home. For the first two weeks we are with the mum and pups 24/7 with a dedicated whelping room that is temperature controlled and safe and secure. They go outside between 4 and 5 weeks of age to learn about the world.
Included with our puppies
Each pup goes to its new home with a puppy pack. This includes information on feeding and diet, daily activity and exercise, health and ongoing care, and the health information for the parents of the puppy. We recommend, and include in the pack, a 3kg bag of Eukanuba Large Breed Puppy food. The puppies are all…

Core Tests(1/1)

Additional Tests
Murrumbern Bernese Mountain Dogs conducts 2 additional tests available for the Bernese Mountain Dog.
Genetic Test
This is a disease affecting the spinal cord of older dogs, initially causing wobbliness and eventually hindlimb paralysis. It can affect a wide range of breeds. There is now a DNA test that can indicated if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.
Physical Test
These breeders have had x-rays taken on their breeding dogs to assess the quality of their elbow joints. Dogs with very low ‘elbow scores’ are less likely to develop elbow problems in the future and less likely to pass hereditary elbow problems on to their puppies.

About the Breeder
A little about us
'Murrumbern' is located in southern NSW, just a short drive north of the Nation's Capital, Canberra. We live on a 30 acre property near the historic village of Gundaroo.
Why we got involved in breeding
We have been owned by Bernese since 2005, when we got our first Bernese, 'Harrison', from Lyn Brand at Branbern. In 2006, 'Windsor' arrived and our journey into the world of dog showing and breeding started.
Our special touch
After 13 years of owning and showing Bernese we decided to take the next step and start breeding. We obtained our kennel/breeding prefix in 2018. Our first litter was born here in 2020.
