Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
Pups are well socialised with both our dogs and kids of all ages. They receive so much love, affection and attention from the day they are born
Health
We strive to breed the best little puppies. Both parents are DNA tested so no genetic diseases are passed onto their little pups
Home environment
Both our dogs are family pets and spend most of their time indoors in bed infront of the fireplace.
Included with our puppies
We offer ongoing support when your purchase a pup from Oak River Cocker Spaniels. We provide a puppy pack with a blanket that smells like mum and their litter mates. A small collar and lead, their little passport which has a copy of their microchip numbers and their vaccinations.

Acral Mutilation Syndrome (AMS) is a genetic disease that causes affected dogs to compulsively lick, overgroom and bite their paws. This can cause recurrent injuries and infections. The condition can be extreme and even result in the dog being euthanised if the signs cannot be controlled.
Genetic Test
Bernard-Soulier Syndrome (BSS) is a genetic bleeding disorder caused by abnormally large platelets in low numbers, meaning an affected animal cannot form clots properly after tissue damage. It can lead to life-threatening bleeding issues following surgery or injury. There is a DNA test available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC) is a genetic condition mainly affecting Retrievers and Spaniels. It results in the dog collapsing after periods of intense exercise, even if they are normally able to cope with lower levels of exercise. There is a DNA test available which can indicate if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.
Genetic Test
Canine Phosphofructokinase (PFK) Deficiency is a genetic disease resulting in low levels of the PFK enzyme. It can result in extreme muscle fatigue, muscle cramping and severe anaemia. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
