Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
As parents to 5 young boys, we are able to naturally socialise the pups from a very young age to touch and sound. The puppies are raised in our family home, so right from their first day earth side they are subject to tv, vibrations, vacuuming etc. We also provide the pups with plenty of social experiences through…
Health
All parents and grandparents of the breeding dogs in the Oaklands Oodles line are cleared via DNA, Hip and elbow scored. We only breed from physically fit and healthy dogs that will improve our lines with confirmation, temperament or coat. (Coat colouring always coming last over temperament and conformation .)
Home environment
Our puppies grow up in a beautiful safe home environment on the Gold Coast. Our little puppy haven provides the best of both worlds with a safe secure yard with many sensory play options. Pups have access to swim in our puppy pools, dig through our ball pits, all on the fringe of an idealistic nature reserve.

Genetic Test
Canine Elliptocytosis is a rare genetic disease causing the red blood cells to be abnormally elliptical in shape, rather than round. It generally does not cause a clinical problem to affected dogs, but puppies may be mildly anaemic and smaller than others. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.
Genetic Test
Dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (DEB) is a congenital skin disease that causes fragile skin, blisters, ulceration, and skin scarring. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
This is a disease affecting the spinal cord of older dogs, initially causing wobbliness and eventually hindlimb paralysis. It can affect a wide range of breeds. There is now a DNA test that can indicated if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.
Genetic Test
This is a serious genetic skin disease that causes flaky dry skin and footpad problems. It can occur in many breeds but is fairly common in Golden Retrievers. There is a DNA test to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this disease and could pass it on to their puppies.
Genetic Test
Mucopolysaccharidosis is a genetic lysosomal storage disease that can cause various problems including stunted growth and bone deformities. There are a few different variants of this disease that have been identified in different breeds. For many breeds there are DNA tests available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying the condition.
Genetic Test
Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL) is a neurodegenerative disorder found in many breeds of dog. 7 varieties have been identified so far, affecting different breeds. There are DNA tests for each type, to identify whether a breeding dog might be carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
Neonatal Encephalopathy (NE) is a brain disease that can occur in Standard Poodle puppies. There is a DNA test available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), also known as ‘brittle bone disease’, is an inherited disease in both humans and animals, causing bone fragility and fracturing. As it is a genetic disease, breeding parents can be tested to ensure it is not passed onto their puppies.

About the Breeder
A little about us
Ever since I can remember, I have loved animals. Growing up, we always had animals and I guess it’s that passion that fuelled my desire to become a veterinary nurse. Through my nursing career, I developed a passion for animal behaviour and this furthered my studies into the dog training world. These two passions…
Why we got involved in breeding
When I first started nursing over 2 decades ago now, I was able to rescue a Golden Retriever x Labrador puppy. The litter had parvovirus and unfortunately, only 1 survived. Parvovirus is highly contagious and results in devastating loss, which is just heart wrenching to witness. Needless to say, that puppy left a…
Our special touch
Having a nursing background combined with a dog behaviour mind where I have trained countless puppies, I believe allows me to have a different outlook on the lines I select.
