Behaviour and socialisation

Puppies are raised in our home, around children and other animals. Our dogs are our family, sharing our home, lives and love. They are always interacting with us, each other and our older dogs to become well-adjusted and socialised. We take them out into our local community where they get used to different…

Health

I am on the French Bulldog Health Advisory Committee of the MBDA and also support Orivet Genetic Pet Care, therefore I conduct full breed profile DNA testing, screwtail in the tail tests, X-rays of the Spine and Trachea, as well as Hips, Elbows and Patellar. My puppies gut health is incredibly important, so I start…

Home environment

We have set up a sterile whelping pen with an incubator inside our house where the puppies remain for their first few weeks. They play in the lounge with their toys as they start to become more mobile and adjusted to family life. We have paved areas outside with fake grass, obstacles for them to climb over and…

Additional Tests

Our World Of Bulldogs Mondo Dei Bulli conducts 11 additional tests available for the French Bulldog.

dna iconGenetic Test

A mutation in the ADAMTS3 gene has been associated with airway disease in dogs. The mutation causes airway swelling and fluid build up which can make affected dogs very prone to breathing problems. There is now a DNA test available in some breeds to identify whether a breeding dog has a mutation in their ADAMTS3 gene. Breeders can use this test to inform their breeding program and help minimise the risk of breathing problems in their puppies.

dna iconGenetic Test

Chondrodystrophy (CDDY) is a condition causing abnormal development of cartilage. Many breeds are prone to this condition, especially short-legged breeds. CDDY makes a dog high risk for developing Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD), or ‘slipped discs’ in their spine. There is a DNA test available to identify if a dog is carrying genes making their puppies higher risk for CDDY/IVDD.

dna iconGenetic Test

Canine Multifocal Retinopathy (CMR) is a genetic disorder causing local detachment of the retina in young dogs. It does not always cause impaired vision or blindness but can in severe cases. There are three types of CMR affecting different breeds. A DNA test is available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

dna iconGenetic Test

This is a disease affecting the spinal cord of older dogs, initially causing wobbliness and eventually hindlimb paralysis. It can affect a wide range of breeds. There is now a DNA test that can indicated if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.

stethoscope iconPhysical Test

These breeders have had x-rays taken on their breeding dogs to assess the quality of their elbow joints. Dogs with very low ‘elbow scores’ are less likely to develop elbow problems in the future and less likely to pass hereditary elbow problems on to their puppies.

dna iconGenetic Test

Hereditary Cataracts (HC) is a genetic form of cataracts. There is a DNA test available in some breeds to indicated whether a breeding dog is carrying this disease.

dna iconGenetic Test

Hyperuricosuria (HUU) is a genetic disease that causes a build-up of uric acid in the urine, predisposing to painful bladder and kidney stones. It can occur in a range of breeds. There is a DNA test available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this disease.

stethoscope iconPhysical Test

A heart certificate indicates that a breeding dog has been screened for heart disease such as DCM or MMVD. Auscultation alone is only accepted as a screening method if performed by a veterinary cardiologist or a GP vet certifying an OFA Basic Cardiac Screen. Echocardiography is an accepted screening method via GP or cardiologist.

dna iconGenetic Test

Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) in dogs is a type of genetic eye disease causing deterioration of the retina and eventually, blindness. There are a variety of sub-types of PRA, which can occur in various breeds. There are various DNA tests available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

dna iconGenetic Test

The DVL2 gene is the common cause of the 'screw-tail' shape in many breeds including Bulldogs and Boston Terriers. This very short, kinked tail is linked to other skeletal abnormalities such as hemivertebrae, which can predispose these dogs to slipped discs and other spinal problems. Breeders can now identify if their breeding dogs are carrying the mutated DVL2 gene. Dogs who are positive for this gene and have had any hemivertebrae noted on their spinal xrays, should not be bred.

stethoscope iconPhysical Test

British Bulldogs are known to be high risk for tracheal hypoplasia, where the trachea (windpipe) is very narrow. Some breeders have xrays taken of their breeding dogs to ensure the diameter of their trachea at the level of the thoracic inlet (where the windpipe enters the lungs) is not extremely narrow. Research is still being conducted to determine the significance of these results for puppies.

A little about us

I’m Christine and family, we are members of MDBA, Dogs Victoria and various other groups that improve our education and knowledge of Frenchies so we can breed the healthiest we are able. We adore Frenchies and could not imagine life without one. We want to help other families experience the love a Frenchie brings…

Why we got involved in breeding

Our special touch

We want French bulldogs to be a healthy breed in Australia, striving for improved health and longevity, we work with many different professionals to aim for this. We find the genetics and bloodlines aspect of breeding French bulldogs fascinating and like to research thoroughly prior to matching our dogs in a mating,…
