Our Breeding Practices

Behaviour and socialisation

Puppies are socialised with children, adults and other dogs. We have 12 grandchildren, so all our puppies and dogs have lots of human interaction and desentisation to noises, motion and activity. Our pups get accustomed to TV noises, music, vacuum, lawn mower, cars and trucks passing and many more.

Health

All required health checks are done on all breeding animals, we see our local vet to get our physical testing such as hips done and we use Orivet for DNA testing. Puppies will be checked by the local vet at 6 weeks, microchipped, vaccinated and wormed.

dna iconGenetic Test

This is a disease affecting the spinal cord of older dogs, initially causing wobbliness and eventually hindlimb paralysis. It can affect a wide range of breeds. There is now a DNA test that can indicated if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.

stethoscope iconPhysical Test

A heart certificate indicates that a breeding dog has been screened for heart disease such as DCM or MMVD. Auscultation alone is only accepted as a screening method if performed by a veterinary cardiologist or a GP vet certifying an OFA Basic Cardiac Screen. Echocardiography is an accepted screening method via GP or cardiologist.

dna iconGenetic Test

This is a serious genetic skin disease that causes flaky dry skin and footpad problems. It can occur in many breeds but is fairly common in Golden Retrievers. There is a DNA test to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this disease and could pass it on to their puppies.

dna iconGenetic Test

Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL) is a neurodegenerative disorder found in many breeds of dog. 7 varieties have been identified so far, affecting different breeds. There are DNA tests for each type, to identify whether a breeding dog might be carrying this condition.

dna iconGenetic Test

Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), also known as ‘brittle bone disease’, is an inherited disease in both humans and animals, causing bone fragility and fracturing. As it is a genetic disease, breeding parents can be tested to ensure it is not passed onto their puppies.

dna iconGenetic Test

Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) in dogs is a type of genetic eye disease causing deterioration of the retina and eventually, blindness. There are a variety of sub-types of PRA, which can occur in various breeds. There are various DNA tests available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

Why we got involved in breeding

My mother and aunty are involved in breeding Golden Retrievers, so I naturally followed suit and began breeding them too! We very much love Golden Retrievers and they have been our passion since we began breeding.

Our special touch

We focus on good health testing and a solid pedigree from English bloodlines.
