Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
As we only have a small number of dogs they reside indoors and are outdoors mostly during the day. We are semi retired so are home most days and the dogs just hang with us. Mum dogs are indoors if they wish at any time, and litters are born and raised inside. All puppies are started on crate training and toilet…
Health
Our adult dogs are all DNA health tested and clear of disease. We use great reproduction vets and have 24/7 access to them. We do treat monthly for fleas and worm monthly as well, and the dogs are kept clean, shiny and fit, with a great diet of quality foods - Lyka, Proplan kibble alongside home prepared raw.
Home environment
We sleep all the dogs in doona's indoors in various rooms, they are outdoors most days with us as we live on a small farm. We also have a huge snake fenced yard that they spend time in during the period that snakes are most active.
Included with our puppies

Health Tests
Core Tests(1/2)

Additional Tests
PJ Dachshunds conducts 4 additional tests available for the Miniature Dachshund.
Genetic Test
Mucopolysaccharidosis is a genetic lysosomal storage disease that can cause various problems including stunted growth and bone deformities. There are a few different variants of this disease that have been identified in different breeds. For many breeds there are DNA tests available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying the condition.
Genetic Test
Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL) is a neurodegenerative disorder found in many breeds of dog. 7 varieties have been identified so far, affecting different breeds. There are DNA tests for each type, to identify whether a breeding dog might be carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), also known as ‘brittle bone disease’, is an inherited disease in both humans and animals, causing bone fragility and fracturing. As it is a genetic disease, breeding parents can be tested to ensure it is not passed onto their puppies.
Genetic Test
Sarcoglycan Deficient Muscular Dystrophy (SDMD) is a genetic disease causing a stiff gait, exercise intolerance and difficulty swallowing in young Miniature Dachshunds. There is now a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.

About the Breeder
A little about us

Please check in here to see what we have available from time to time - we do hope you find your family's new companion. Our beloved dogs lead the very best rural lifestyle with us most every day out and about. At present we…
Why we got involved in breeding
Wanting to breed a couple of puppies to keep for ourselves got us started, and we have enjoyed the process ever since, raising healthy little dogs that fulfill a family's dreams is pretty awesome, and so we have continued to breed a few litters a year.
Our special touch
We teach resilience in our puppies, something lacking in many programs these days. We raw feed all prepared here in our kitchen alongside Lyka and Purina Proplan kibble and our dogs teeth and coats really show the benefits of this program. This also offers new families a choice in direction with what they wish to…
