Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
Our puppies are bred in our home and socialised safely at the recommended age for their best chance to thrive in their new furever homes. We have regular visitors from adults to toddlers that will interact with the puppies. We want to ensure they love everybody no matter how big or small!
Health
Our pups are vet checked and double vaccinated we keep them until minimum 11 weeks to ensure they are safe to go out and about with their new families.
Home environment
Our pups grow up in a loving home with a bunch of older dachshunds to learn from. We have small children visit our home to socialise the pups from a young age. These pups go through extensive training and we make sure they are free from fear of common sounds eg. vacuum, lawn mower, pots and pans dropping, sirens, ect.
Included with our puppies
All puppies will go home microchipped with a puppy pack which can include but isn’t limited to: Puppy food (Kibble & Lyka) Toys Blanket with mums scent Training treats Grooming essentials Collar & lead Information packs Progress report

Additional Tests
Portobello Dachshunds conducts 4 additional tests available for the Miniature Dachshund.
Genetic Test
Mucopolysaccharidosis is a genetic lysosomal storage disease that can cause various problems including stunted growth and bone deformities. There are a few different variants of this disease that have been identified in different breeds. For many breeds there are DNA tests available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying the condition.
Genetic Test
Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL) is a neurodegenerative disorder found in many breeds of dog. 7 varieties have been identified so far, affecting different breeds. There are DNA tests for each type, to identify whether a breeding dog might be carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), also known as ‘brittle bone disease’, is an inherited disease in both humans and animals, causing bone fragility and fracturing. As it is a genetic disease, breeding parents can be tested to ensure it is not passed onto their puppies.
Genetic Test
Sarcoglycan Deficient Muscular Dystrophy (SDMD) is a genetic disease causing a stiff gait, exercise intolerance and difficulty swallowing in young Miniature Dachshunds. There is now a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.

About the Breeder
A little about us
Our names are Nicole and Liam and we are a young couple with a passion and love for all things dogs, specfically Dachshunds.
Why we got involved in breeding
We fell in love with the breed when we bought our first Dachshund Dakotah. It has been a lifelong dream to responsibly breed and give prospective adoptive fur-parents the best and most well-rounded puppies.
Our special touch
We have a strong passion for breeding dachshunds to a high standard. We spend time implementing an extensively documented training plan so that these puppies learn from a very young age how to be confident, independent loving dogs.
