Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
At Ravensnite puppies are raised in the house, experiencing all the regular noises but also under my watchful eye. As they get older and are wanting to learn and explore they are exposed to the outside would, hearing and see mower, whipper snippers and playing with my neighbours children. It is important that they…
Health
All dogs at Ravensnite are DNA tested for all testable genetic disorders ensure in the puppies bred cannot be affected by them. My dogs also regularly visit an animal chiropractor keeping them in optimal health and fitness.
Home environment
Ravensnite is situated on 3 beautiful dog friendly acres where they are able to run to their hearts content and at night sleep securely inside keeping them safe from danger. Puppies are born in the house, where Mums feel secure and safe from predators and I can keep a close eye on the growing bundles. When old…

Acral Mutilation Syndrome (AMS) is a genetic disease that causes affected dogs to compulsively lick, overgroom and bite their paws. This can cause recurrent injuries and infections. The condition can be extreme and even result in the dog being euthanised if the signs cannot be controlled.
Genetic Test
Bernard-Soulier Syndrome (BSS) is a genetic bleeding disorder caused by abnormally large platelets in low numbers, meaning an affected animal cannot form clots properly after tissue damage. It can lead to life-threatening bleeding issues following surgery or injury. There is a DNA test available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC) is a genetic condition mainly affecting Retrievers and Spaniels. It results in the dog collapsing after periods of intense exercise, even if they are normally able to cope with lower levels of exercise. There is a DNA test available which can indicate if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.
Genetic Test
Canine Phosphofructokinase (PFK) Deficiency is a genetic disease resulting in low levels of the PFK enzyme. It can result in extreme muscle fatigue, muscle cramping and severe anaemia. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

About the Breeder
A little about us
As a retired Veterinary Nurse and I believe in the health and well being of all animals. Cocker Spaniels became a life long passion when I met my first one as a child.
Why we got involved in breeding
I bought my first Cocker Spaniel in 1992 that I trained as an obedience dog then in 1999 I bought my 2nd, a black girl whom was good enough to show then as a natural progression I want to breed my next show dog and that's when it started, 2002.
Our special touch
Every breeder has their own thing that they believe in and what they think is important, for me, it's temperament and type. They must have correct nature and they must look like a cocker spaniel with a melting expression.
