Additional Tests

RIVERSPRIDE Cocker Spaniels conducts 4 additional tests available for the Cocker Spaniel.

dna iconGenetic Test

Acral Mutilation Syndrome (AMS) is a genetic disease that causes affected dogs to compulsively lick, overgroom and bite their paws. This can cause recurrent injuries and infections. The condition can be extreme and even result in the dog being euthanised if the signs cannot be controlled.

dna iconGenetic Test

Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC) is a genetic condition mainly affecting Retrievers and Spaniels. It results in the dog collapsing after periods of intense exercise, even if they are normally able to cope with lower levels of exercise. There is a DNA test available which can indicate if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.

stethoscope iconPhysical Test

These breeders have had x-rays taken on their breeding dogs to assess the quality of their elbow joints. Dogs with very low ‘elbow scores’ are less likely to develop elbow problems in the future and less likely to pass hereditary elbow problems on to their puppies.

dna iconGenetic Test

Canine Phosphofructokinase (PFK) Deficiency is a genetic disease resulting in low levels of the PFK enzyme. It can result in extreme muscle fatigue, muscle cramping and severe anaemia. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

About the Breeder

A little about us

Maria has owned and loved dogs since she was 12 years old when she was given the responsibility of training the family’s first dog, a beautiful GSD. She learned how to be calm, firm, loving, and committed to another living being. Maria has always loved animals but dogs had a special spot in her heart. Having a dog…

Why we got involved in breeding

Maria was first introduced to the English cocker spaniel in 1999 when she began looking for a smaller breed to have while raising her young family and was delighted with the gentle fun-loving dogs.

Our special touch

With a new phase of her life, Maria has the time and the commitment to help a new generation of cocker spaniels into the world. Being able to fully commit to raising puppies and using up-to-date information, as well as utilizing programs such as puppy culture Maria strives to make sure that Rivers Pride pups have…
