Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
Any pups bred by us will be socialised with our other adult Dachshunds. We have our family pet, Peanut (desexed), who is extremely gentle and calm and great with all dogs, puppies and children. All puppies will be microchipped and health checked before leaving for their forever homes. Home environment
The puppies will be brought up primarily as inside dogs with some basic crate training. - Genetic Test
This is a disease affecting the spinal cord of older dogs, initially causing wobbliness and eventually hindlimb paralysis. It can affect a wide range of breeds. There is now a DNA test that can indicated if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.
- Genetic Test
Mucopolysaccharidosis is a genetic lysosomal storage disease that can cause various problems including stunted growth and bone deformities. There are a few different variants of this disease that have been identified in different breeds. For many breeds there are DNA tests available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying the condition.

Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL) is a neurodegenerative disorder found in many breeds of dog. 7 varieties have been identified so far, affecting different breeds. There are DNA tests for each type, to identify whether a breeding dog might be carrying this condition.

My name is Teghan Spencer. I am very passionate about the dachshund breed and endeavour to stay true to breed standards in both temperament and confirmation as best I can.
Why we got involved in breeding
I absolutely fell in love with the breed when we got our first miniature dachshund, Peanut. Peanut has since been desexed and remains my first little love and our family pet. Applying for a puppy
Here at Spencer's Dachshunds we pride ourselves on building relationships with puppy parents/families so will provide a life long friendship to all new puppy owners. We will always welcome pups to be returned to us at any time including if you are heading on a holiday. With your puppy, you will receive an extensive puppy pack with an information booklet including an abundance of pictures and/or videos. Your puppy will come vet checked, microchipped, sterilised (if you have questions about this please ask!) and with 1-2 of their first puppy vaccines. All puppy's commence basic crate and toilet training; similarly they will receive early introductions to vehicles and household living conditions to ensure they are desensitised as much as possible before joining you in their new home. All adult dogs are DNA tested to ensure they are clear of inheritable diseases and fed a diet of Lyka meat and Meals For Mutts kibble.
