Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
Any pups bred by us will be socialised with our other adult Dachshunds. We have our family pets, Peanut (desexed), who is extremely gentle and calm and great with all dogs, puppies and children; and we have our retired stud, Toblerone, who will show puppies how to be courageous in our own backyard. Puppies will learn…
Health
All puppies will be microchipped and health checked before leaving for their forever homes. Pups will be sent out into the world to live with their fur-ever families from about 10-12 weeks, we will judge this based of the growth and development of individual pups. It is recommended that your new pup gets a health…
Home environment
The puppies will be brought up primarily as inside dogs with some basic crate training. Pups will be de-sensitised to the outdoors by slowly introducing them to our backyard which includes grass, and possibly outside weather such as rain. They will have the opportunity to grow and learn positive dog behaviours…
Included with our puppies
Once we have a litter we will look at putting together some puppy starter packs to make the transition into their fur-ever home easier! This may include: - a small bag of their kibble and Lyka meat that they have grown up on (you can choose to change their diet but ensure you make this decision as soon as possible,…
Health Tests
Core Tests(1/2)
Spencer's Dachshunds conducts 1 out of 2 core health tests which RightPaw believe are most important to conduct for the Dachshund.

Additional Tests
Spencer's Dachshunds conducts 4 additional tests available for the Dachshund.
Genetic Test
This is a disease affecting the spinal cord of older dogs, initially causing wobbliness and eventually hindlimb paralysis. It can affect a wide range of breeds. There is now a DNA test that can indicated if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.
Genetic Test
Mucopolysaccharidosis is a genetic lysosomal storage disease that can cause various problems including stunted growth and bone deformities. There are a few different variants of this disease that have been identified in different breeds. For many breeds there are DNA tests available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying the condition.
Genetic Test
Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL) is a neurodegenerative disorder found in many breeds of dog. 7 varieties have been identified so far, affecting different breeds. There are DNA tests for each type, to identify whether a breeding dog might be carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), also known as ‘brittle bone disease’, is an inherited disease in both humans and animals, causing bone fragility and fracturing. As it is a genetic disease, breeding parents can be tested to ensure it is not passed onto their puppies.

About the Breeder
A little about us
My name is Teghan Spencer. I am very passionate about the dachshund breed and endeavour to stay true to breed standards in both temperament and confirmation as best I can.
Why we got involved in breeding
I absolutely fell in love with the breed when we got our first miniature dachshund, Peanut. Peanut has since been desexed and remains my first little love and our family pet. From here, we got him a friend, Toblerone. When we met Toblerone, we were told by his breeder that he had exceptional genes and confirmation…
Our special touch
All our dogs are considered a part of our family, and once retired will remain a part of our family (Peanut and Toblerone have already been desexed and will remain with us in the Spencer residence). They are inside dogs who sleep in crates in our bedroom at night, and spend most of their days snoozing away on our…
