Our Breeding Practices

Behaviour and socialisation

We believe socialisation plays a huge role in the development of our babies so we ensure this is done appropriately which requires taking into consideration where each pup is milestone wise and of course their age. All introductions are done slowly and are closely supervised. When we refer to socialisation and…

Health

The health and wellbeing of all of our puppies is our priority and this begins before mating even occurs through DNA testing of all potential pairs this is then followed with a compressive vet check of the dam and sire as well as a temperament test. During the pregnancy we have regular vet check ups and the mother…

Home environment

We live on a large block, where the puppies have full access to the indoor and outdoor environments to promote exploration. We have secure fencing to allow for this and the puppies are always closely supervised. The outdoor area is set up to encourage, promote and support a variety of skills and milestones for the…

Included with our puppies

Our babies are our pride and joy, so our puppy packs contain quite a lot of information, documentation and a variety of supplies to assist in the transition including a blanket with mums scent on it. Before going to their new homes all of the puppies receive a health check from our vet, first vaccinations and…

dna iconGenetic Test

Mucopolysaccharidosis is a genetic lysosomal storage disease that can cause various problems including stunted growth and bone deformities. There are a few different variants of this disease that have been identified in different breeds. For many breeds there are DNA tests available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying the condition.

dna iconGenetic Test

Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL) is a neurodegenerative disorder found in many breeds of dog. 7 varieties have been identified so far, affecting different breeds. There are DNA tests for each type, to identify whether a breeding dog might be carrying this condition.

dna iconGenetic Test

Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), also known as ‘brittle bone disease’, is an inherited disease in both humans and animals, causing bone fragility and fracturing. As it is a genetic disease, breeding parents can be tested to ensure it is not passed onto their puppies.

dna iconGenetic Test

Sarcoglycan Deficient Muscular Dystrophy (SDMD) is a genetic disease causing a stiff gait, exercise intolerance and difficulty swallowing in young Miniature Dachshunds. There is now a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.

About the Breeder

A little about us

Hi I'm Alexia, and I started the small breeding program "The Snag Clan". There are many reasons behind why I have started the program including my love for the breed and wanting to better the breed. I have a strong interest in Dapple Dachshunds, but also look forward to producing Dachshunds of various genetics and…

Why we got involved in breeding

I decided to get involved in breeding for a number of reasons including wanting to be able to bring other families the same love and joy that we are so fortunate to have from our babies. I fell involve with the breed and feel so grateful for my Chino and Coco.

Our special touch

I feel being a small family, that alone is a special touch. All the puppies are instantly loved and cared for like family members and we are always available for support if needed. We also offer a lifetime rehoming guarantee, for whatever reason if a pup can no longer be cared for by their forever home we take on the…
