Our Breeding Practices

Behaviour and socialisation

Our pups are raised indoors until 5-6 weeks of age, at which point we expose them as suitable to outdoors. They socialise with our other dogs and our cat, along with our 5 kids. So they’re definitely used to having a noisy environment.

Health

Our pups have the best of care. They’re fed on cooked meats and biscuits as recommended by our vet. They have their vet checks, vaccinations etc at 6 weeks of age. They are also worked at the recommended stages.

Home environment

Our pups sleep in our bedroom in a whelping box until they’re old enough to venture outside for short periods. We have a doggy door for them to do as they please.

Mucopolysaccharidosis is a genetic lysosomal storage disease that can cause various problems including stunted growth and bone deformities. There are a few different variants of this disease that have been identified in different breeds. For many breeds there are DNA tests available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying the condition.
: Genetic Test
Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL) is a neurodegenerative disorder found in many breeds of dog. 7 varieties have been identified so far, affecting different breeds. There are DNA tests for each type, to identify whether a breeding dog might be carrying this condition.

Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), also known as ‘brittle bone disease’, is an inherited disease in both humans and animals, causing bone fragility and fracturing. As it is a genetic disease, breeding parents can be tested to ensure it is not passed onto their puppies.

Sarcoglycan Deficient Muscular Dystrophy (SDMD) is a genetic disease causing a stiff gait, exercise intolerance and difficulty swallowing in young Miniature Dachshunds. There is now a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.

A little about us

Hello fellow Dachie lovers, my name is Teagan and I’m a registered breeder. I breed minis and infrequently have litters available. Our pups are our everything and we only breed to enjoy them in our family. Our dogs sleep in our beds at night, eat dinner with us and sleep at my feet during the day while I work.

Why we got involved in breeding

I love all animals, but I chose to get into breeding to show our children the love we share for pets. The joy we get from seeing our pups born and raising them along side Mumma is so rewarding.

Our special touch

Our special touch is having the puppies raised around our children, other dogs and cats. They’re so social and friendly, it really does make them wonderful pets.
