Our Breeding Practices

Behaviour and socialisation

All our puppies are well-socialised from an early stage, getting to know children and adults and other animals and the usual household noises and activity. We pride ourselves on our puppies' great natures and often receive comments on how well they adjusted to their new families and homes.

Health

All our breeding stock has full breed profile DNA testing with Orivet and we use only Premium puppy foods for their diet to ensure optimum health and growth. All puppies are microchipped, registered, wormed, vaccinated and vet checked before going to their forever families.

Home environment

Our puppies are raised indoors in my home until at least five weeks of age. They are then introduced to the outside world (in good weather) and all the usual noises and bustle of family living. They start their toilet training and socialisation with other animals, grass and the outside world.

Puppies come with a puppy pack that will include the premium dog food they have been raised on, plenty of information on raising your puppy, toys, a blanket and anything else l think may be useful to the new owner for the puppy's transition. dna iconGenetic Test

Acral Mutilation Syndrome (AMS) is a genetic disease that causes affected dogs to compulsively lick, overgroom and bite their paws. This can cause recurrent injuries and infections. The condition can be extreme and even result in the dog being euthanised if the signs cannot be controlled.

dna iconGenetic Test

This is a rare genetic disease affecting Cocker Spaniels. It can cause wobbliness and incoordination in the hindlimbs, with eventual progression to paralysis and difficulty breathing. It usually only affects older dogs and progression is slow over several years. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

dna iconGenetic Test

Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC) is a genetic condition mainly affecting Retrievers and Spaniels. It results in the dog collapsing after periods of intense exercise, even if they are normally able to cope with lower levels of exercise. There is a DNA test available which can indicate if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.

stethoscope iconPhysical Test

These breeders have had x-rays taken on their breeding dogs to assess the quality of their elbow joints. Dogs with very low ‘elbow scores’ are less likely to develop elbow problems in the future and less likely to pass hereditary elbow problems on to their puppies.

dna iconGenetic Test

Canine Phosphofructokinase (PFK) Deficiency is a genetic disease resulting in low levels of the PFK enzyme. It can result in extreme muscle fatigue, muscle cramping and severe anaemia. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

Why we got involved in breeding

When l first decided l wanted to add a cocker spaniel to the family, l had not realised just how difficult it would be to find one. Along the way, l met many people in a similar situation. If they could find a breeder, puppies were sold long before they had a chance to add one of these fun-loving mischief makers to…
