Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
At Triplewag Tenterfield Terriers, we believe early socialisation plays a vital role in raising confident, well-adjusted puppies. Additional Tests
TRIPLEWAG TENTERFIELD TERRIERS conducts 4 additional tests available for the Tenterfield Terrier.
Genetic Test
Black Hair Follicular Dysplasia (BHFD) is a genetic condition causing hair loss of black and brown regions of the coat. It is linked to the ‘dilute’ colour gene and can affect many tri-coloured or bi-coloured dogs. Affected dogs are prone to developing skin infections. There is a DNA test available to identify breeding dogs that are carrying BHFD.
Genetic Test
Congenital Hypothyroidism with Goitre (CHG) is a genetic type of hypothyroidism that can be found in Fox Terriers, English Toy Terriers and Tenterfield Terriers. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
This is a disease affecting the spinal cord of older dogs, initially causing wobbliness and eventually hindlimb paralysis. It can affect a wide range of breeds. There is now a DNA test that can indicated if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.
Physical Test
Dogs affected by patellar luxation have loose kneecaps that may pop in and out of the knee joint, which can be painful and even require surgery. Having a vet examine breeding dogs for patellar luxation can confirm the dog is not affected, and that their puppies are less likely to develop the condition. Patellar luxation is more common in smaller breeds.

Why we got involved in breeding
My journey with Tenterfield Terriers began when I was 9 years old with a Tenterfield Terrier cross who quickly became my best friend. When I was 15, I decided she needed a companion, and that decision led me to purchase my first purebred Tenterfield Terrier. Showing and breeding dogs was never unfamiliar to me. My…
