Our Breeding Practices

Behaviour and socialisation

Puppies are whelped and raised in the home with lots of interaction and enrichment activities. Puppies are exposed to many different textures, sounds and experiences as well as interaction with stable adult dogs. I use many aspects of the Puppy Culture program, including Early Neurological Stimulation. I assess…

Health

Both parent dogs are hip and elbow x-rayed, heart tested and eyes tested- all performed by specialist vets. I also DNA test for the full range of diseases the breed can be tested for. Puppies are wormed regularly, raised on high quality food, and vet checked at 6 weeks of age.

Home environment

I do not have kennels- my dogs live with us in our home. Puppies are whelped in the home and stay there until about 6 or 7 weeks old, then move to a larger puppy area with access to a larger outdoor run. We live on acreage so our puppies and dogs have plenty of room to roam. I take care to keep the puppy area…

Included with our puppies

Puppies come with ANKC pedigree papers, microchipped, vet checked, vaccinated, 6 weeks free insurance, puppy packs from Blackhawk and Lyka including food, comprehensive puppy guide, private Facebook group, health guarantee and lifetime support. I offer homestay accommodation for any dog I've produced. Any puppy…

Additional Tests

dna iconGenetic Test

Dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (DEB) is a congenital skin disease that causes fragile skin, blisters, ulceration, and skin scarring. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

dna iconGenetic Test

This is a disease affecting the spinal cord of older dogs, initially causing wobbliness and eventually hindlimb paralysis. It can affect a wide range of breeds. There is now a DNA test that can indicated if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.

stethoscope iconPhysical Test

A heart certificate indicates that a breeding dog has been screened for heart disease such as DCM or MMVD. Auscultation alone is only accepted as a screening method if performed by a veterinary cardiologist or a GP vet certifying an OFA Basic Cardiac Screen. Echocardiography is an accepted screening method via GP or cardiologist.

dna iconGenetic Test

This is a serious genetic skin disease that causes flaky dry skin and footpad problems. It can occur in many breeds but is fairly common in Golden Retrievers. There is a DNA test to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this disease and could pass it on to their puppies.

dna iconGenetic Test

Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL) is a neurodegenerative disorder found in many breeds of dog. 7 varieties have been identified so far, affecting different breeds. There are DNA tests for each type, to identify whether a breeding dog might be carrying this condition.

dna iconGenetic Test

Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), also known as ‘brittle bone disease’, is an inherited disease in both humans and animals, causing bone fragility and fracturing. As it is a genetic disease, breeding parents can be tested to ensure it is not passed onto their puppies.

dna iconGenetic Test

Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) in dogs is a type of genetic eye disease causing deterioration of the retina and eventually, blindness. There are a variety of sub-types of PRA, which can occur in various breeds. There are various DNA tests available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

dna iconGenetic Test

Skeletal Dysplasia is an inherited form of dwarfism which causes the leg bones to grow much shorter than is proportional for the body. Affected legs will be short and slightly bowed outwards. Often the forelimbs are more affected than the hindlimbs, which can make the condition more difficult to spot in subtle cases. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

About the Breeder

A little about us

I am a dog trainer, groomer and breeder, so I'm all about dogs! I adore Golden Retrievers and have had them for over 25 years. I chose to go through the more difficult process of becoming an ANKC/Dogs Australia breeder (rather than the easy to join, more recently developed associations) because I'm dedicated to not…

Why we got involved in breeding

It has been a long held dream of mine to breed Goldens and many years in the making to get to this point. I aim to preserve and improve this wonderful breed for future generations.

Our special touch

I am passionate about breeding Golden Retrievers that are healthy, sound and fit the breed standard, but most of all have excellent temperaments. I aim to breed and raise trainable, social and confident puppies. Our dogs live with us in the home and our puppies are raised in the home, with lots of interaction and…
