We specialise in breeding low-shedding and ultra low-shedding Golden Retrievers, a rare and premium offering in Australia. The difference between our low-shedding and ultra low-shedding puppies is based on the inheritance of the MC5R Melanocortin 5 Receptor gene. Puppies may inherit either a single copy of the MC5R gene low shedding or two copies ultra low shedding, depending on their genetic makeup. As part of our breeding program, we utilise DNA testing, including assessment of the MC5R Melanocortin 5 Receptor gene, which has been associated with coat and shedding characteristics in dogs. By incorporating this genetic information into our breeding decisions, we aim to produce puppies that may shed less than the average Golden Retriever while maintaining the breed’s beautiful appearance, intelligence, gentle temperament, and affectionate nature. It is important to understand that no purebred Golden Retriever is completely non-shedding. Shedding is influenced by multiple genes as well as environmental factors, nutrition, coat care, and seasonal coat changes. While the MC5R gene is one factor that may contribute to reduced shedding, it does not guarantee that an individual puppy will be low shedding. In addition to genetic screening, all of our breeding dogs undergo comprehensive health testing to help ensure they meet the highest standards for health, soundness, and temperament.
