Hello, I'm Alana A.
Our kennel was founded/established in 2010, but our first introduction to the breed dates back years before. As a child growing up in the 90's it isn't surprising that I (Alana) fell in love with Chance, the American Bulldog from the Homeward Bound movies (1993 & 1996), but for me it was the 1994 remake of The Little Rascals. Petey was played by an American Bulldog, and he was my first love in the breed. I met my first American Bulldog at a service station in North Adelaide, South Australia in 2008. He was the father of my very first dog Ava. From that moment I was in awe of the magnificence of what this breed represents, I couldn't believe I was meeting a real AB and it was then that I truly became determined to learn more and have a purebred bulldog of my own. In 2010 we purchased our first "purebred" American Bulldog named Blaze from what could only be described as a backyard breeder. He was riddled with issues and had a very questionable temperament. Based on our own experience with backyard breeders we soon realised that the representation of the breed in Australia wasn't the best and the standard of breeding practices was somewhat questionable. We continued to research for months about breeders, types, standards, registries, the history etc. Because our first bulldog wasn't the greatest example, we became determined to better the quality of American Bulldogs in Australia. We knew exactly what we wanted the next time round and by June 2011 we had purchased what would become the beginning of our breeding program. Southside's Foundation bitch was Hay's Snow Queen. She was purchased from Performance American Bulldogs NZ. Bred by Rose & Stuart Hay, she grew up to be an exceptional addition to not only our family but to the breeding program. Without Eira (Hay's Snow Queen) we wouldn't have the dogs we do today and for that we are eternally grateful. She was the heart and soul of our home and our lives right up until her last breath. Everything we do moving forward is in her honour. She truly was the greatest American Bulldog. We aim to keep her spirit alive in each generation of her progeny. She is gone but never forgotten!
