Hello, I'm Melissa B.
My journey with GSPs began in 1985 when I owned my first show dog Fred. I grew up showing and breeding as part of the Gillbrae prefix. I competed in PAL junior handlers competitions for 7 years and handled many different dog breeds during that time. At the age of 22 I walked away from the dog show scene and had a 22 year absence. After raising my children and building my career, it was the right time to move back into owning and loving GSPs. In my 22 year absence, the world of pedigree dogs has changed significantly including the style of GSP we sometimes now see in Australia. Although I still love showing my dogs to prove that their conformation measures to the breed standard and feeling proud that I can breed a dog that is fit for purpose with what the original custodians of this amazing breed envisioned, there are also many other activities you can do with GSPs today. We compete in dogs sports where ever possible which helps me to build a fantastic relationship with my dogs. I breed selectively for the main purpose of securing the type of GSP I want in my kennel. When I plan a litter, part of that is to keep a puppy to continue with the breeding plan that I have envisaged over the next 10 to 15 years. You will find that I have a penchant for solid brown (liver) GSPs and most of my team are solid liver. Although all of the team have liver, liver/white, black/white in their lines.
