Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
My puppies are born in our dining room, I sleep next to the whelping box for as long as mum and puppies need me. We follow puppy culture and provide puppies with a multitude of social and behavioral stimulation, having had the breed for so long I understand the finer points of Vallhund puppy raising.
Health
Ausled puppies come from parents who are tested for Swedish Vallhund retinopathy, long coat gene testing is important, we don't like to produce long coats as it can be a health issue, we also test for breeding diversity, very important in a small gene pool.
Home environment
At Ausled our dogs have ample room to play and run, we live on eight acres, dedicated dog areas are fenced with deer wire and the whole property is securely fenced on the boundaries. Puppies have a play area with lots of stimulating play equipment and safe climbing places, this helps puppies learn where their feet…
Included with our puppies
Our pups come with all the usual things, ankc paperwork, inoculations, worming. We provide feeding advise and puppy food to go home with, diet sheet for on going feeding. Six week insurance. toys and smells from the whelping box, usually in the form of bedding to help puppy feel at home. Life long breeder support,…

Retinopathy is disease of the retina, at the back of the eye. It can result in deterioration of eyesight or even blindness. A specific type of retinopathy has been identified in Swedish Vallhunds, which is similar to Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) that occurs in many breeds. There is a now a genetic test to identify whether a dog is carrying the gene related to this retinopathy.
