Health

It is standard practice at Hall's Heelers for our ACD puppies to receive regular worming, vet checks and clean warm (or cool) bedding. Once age permits they receive the best mix of raw food and Black Hawk kibble in their diet during weaning and once weaned from their mum.

Home environment

Our ACD pups are regularly handled, weighed and monitored and loved to death by our family during the time they are with us. It's not uncommon for our grandchildren to be around every day with a new name for each one after their latest play session with them.

Additional Tests

Hall's Heelers : The Original, Blue, Australian Cattle Dogs conducts 5 additional tests available for the Australian Cattle Dog.

dna iconGenetic Test

This condition mainly affects Newfoundlands although other breeds can be affected. It is a genetic condition which results in the production of kidney and bladder stones. There is a DNA test available to confirm that breeding dogs are not carrying this condition.

dna iconGenetic Test

This is a disease affecting the spinal cord of older dogs, initially causing wobbliness and eventually hindlimb paralysis. It can affect a wide range of breeds. There is now a DNA test that can indicated if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.

dna iconGenetic Test

Hyperuricosuria (HUU) is a genetic disease that causes a build-up of uric acid in the urine, predisposing to painful bladder and kidney stones. It can occur in a range of breeds. There is a DNA test available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this disease.

dna iconGenetic Test

The MDR-1 gene (Multi-drug Resistance Gene 1) is responsible for producing proteins that protect the brain from harmful chemicals. Some breeds have a mutation in this gene resulting in them being dangerously sensitive to certain chemicals and drugs. It is recommended to test these breeding dogs for the MDR-1 mutation, so they do not pass on the sensitivity to their puppies.

dna iconGenetic Test

Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL) is a neurodegenerative disorder found in many breeds of dog. 7 varieties have been identified so far, affecting different breeds. There are DNA tests for each type, to identify whether a breeding dog might be carrying this condition.

Why we got involved in breeding

We love to breed our ACD pups and our goal in breeding is to leave a legacy of genetically clean and sound dogs that are fit for their breed purpose (rounding up cattle) and also have great temperaments, natures and are excellent all round, hardie and smart pets.

Our special touch

As small "boutique" size breeders all of our dogs are responsibly housed yet each one is "special" to us and gets attention as a house dog regulalrly. They run freely on our property when monitored and are regulalry socialised with all walks of people and other dogs.
