Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
Our puppies are family raised, to the delight of our five children & are handled extensively. We use many training techniques including imprint training which starts on the day they are born. Here on the farm they get exposed daily to lots of cuddles, noise & other animals. As little babies they are housed in…
Health
Puppies are thoroughly checked over for any issues from birth and are vet checked at six weeks. They are de-wormed at 2wks, 4wks, 6wks & 8wks. At six weeks they are microchipped & receive their first vaccination. From 8-12wks puppies are ready to go to their new homes! Screening for the parents; We do hip & elbow…
Home environment
Our breeding facility is in a shed right by our house with a concrete floor to allow for adequate cleaning & sterilisation. We have two pens, each with a whelping box inside (with a heated floor in winter). Outside of the whelping box the floor is covered with soft wood shavings. We have created a cosy, dark space to…
Included with our puppies
We send our puppies to their new homes with a special blankie that they have been sleeping on with their mother. This is an important step to ensure comfort as they adjust to their new home. We instruct which puppy kibble they have been eating to ensure you have the same ready at your house & also which de-wormer we…

Genetic Test
Congenital eye malformations in Golden Retrievers result from a mutation of the SIX6 gene. These malformations can present as a range of different eye conditions, ranging from poor vision to blindness in one or both eyes. There is a DNA test available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying the affected gene.
Genetic Test
Dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (DEB) is a congenital skin disease that causes fragile skin, blisters, ulceration, and skin scarring. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
This is a disease affecting the spinal cord of older dogs, initially causing wobbliness and eventually hindlimb paralysis. It can affect a wide range of breeds. There is now a DNA test that can indicated if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.
Genetic Test
This is a serious genetic skin disease that causes flaky dry skin and footpad problems. It can occur in many breeds but is fairly common in Golden Retrievers. There is a DNA test to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this disease and could pass it on to their puppies.
Genetic Test
Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL) is a neurodegenerative disorder found in many breeds of dog. 7 varieties have been identified so far, affecting different breeds. There are DNA tests for each type, to identify whether a breeding dog might be carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), also known as ‘brittle bone disease’, is an inherited disease in both humans and animals, causing bone fragility and fracturing. As it is a genetic disease, breeding parents can be tested to ensure it is not passed onto their puppies.
Genetic Test
Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) in dogs is a type of genetic eye disease causing deterioration of the retina and eventually, blindness. There are a variety of sub-types of PRA, which can occur in various breeds. There are various DNA tests available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
Skeletal Dysplasia is an inherited form of dwarfism which causes the leg bones to grow much shorter than is proportional for the body. Affected legs will be short and slightly bowed outwards. Often the forelimbs are more affected than the hindlimbs, which can make the condition more difficult to spot in subtle cases. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

Why we got involved in breeding
I have always owned & trained working dogs, since I was a small child. I have enjoyed breeding & training working dogs & herd guard dogs throughout my working career. When I became a mum we wanted to buy a beautiful pedigree pet for our family. Being a stay at home mum put me in the perfect position to pursue my…
Our special touch
I would like to think our special touch is twofold. Firstly our utter dedication to perfection. I really don't see the point of breeding a mediocre animal. I want to breed the absolute best. We searched hard & long for our Sally. Put the utmost effort into breeding our Madam & Tess. Waited patiently for years for…
