Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
The dogs go with me virtually everywhere, nearly every time I leave the house, weather and circumstances permitting.
Health
My dogs all have health Insurance, wormed monthly with simparica trio. All have been hip and elbow scored, eyes and mouth certification. And genetic testing forJLPP and LEMP. Daily physical and mental exercise.
Home environment
All my dogs sleep inside. Watch plenty of tv at night. They seem to have a preference for the dog rescuer show” The Dog House”. The air conditioner is mostly for them. They have their own beds. And get daily exercise in the pine forest and out to the beach once a week. Socialised at all the shops and parks, and…
Included with our puppies
Puppy pack will include the puppy pedigree, vaccination and health record, parents health testing, to include hip and elbow scores, eye and mouth testing, JLPP and Lemp testing. Toys, and Royal Canin or Black Hawk Puppy food to get started.
Health Tests
Core Tests(3/3)
Obenschutz conducts 3 out of 3 core health tests which RightPaw believe are most important to conduct for the Rottweiler.
Elbow Dysplasia
Physical Test

Hip Dysplasia
Physical Test
These breeders have had x-rays taken on their breeding dogs to assess their ‘hip score’. Dogs with…
JLPP
Genetic Test
Juvenile Laryngeal Paralysis and Polyneuropathy (JLPP) is a genetic neurological disorder…
Additional Tests
Obenschutz conducts 7 additional tests available for the Rottweiler.
Genetic Test
This is a disease affecting the spinal cord of older dogs, initially causing wobbliness and eventually hindlimb paralysis. It can affect a wide range of breeds. There is now a DNA test that can indicated if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.
Physical Test
An eye certificate means the breeder has had their breeding dogs examined by a veterinary ophthalmologist, to confirm they are not affected by any eye conditions which may be passed down genetically to their puppies. If relevant for the breed, it also includes running DNA tests to confirm the dog is not a genetic carrier of hereditary eye diseases, such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA). It includes breeders who have participated in the Australian Canine Eye Scheme (ACES).
Genetic Test
Hereditary Footpad Hyperkeratosis (HFH) is a genetic condition of Irish Terriers that causes thickening and hardening of their footpads, forming painful corns. There is a DNA test now available to indicate whether a breeding dog is carrying this disease. This test can be run on puppies as well.
Genetic Test
Leukoencephalomyelopathy (LEMP) is a genetic neuromuscular disease. There is a DNA test available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
Physical Test
A mouth certificate indicates the dog has had its teeth examined for any missing or misaligned teeth and that its bite is correct. Dogs with overshot, undershot or misaligned jaws should not be bred. A poor bite or jaw problems can lead to more dental disease, ulcers, palate and lip problems.
Genetic Test
X-linked myotubular myopathy (XLMTM) is an inherited muscle disease causing severe, progressive muscle atrophy in puppies. Affected puppies are small and lack coordination. Within weeks, the puppies may have difficulty holding their head up or standing and may collapse after exertion. There is a DNA test available to identify whether a breeding dog might be carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
Neuroaxonal Dystrophy (NAD) is a degenerative neurological disease that has been identified in a few breeds. Gradual degeneration of nerve cells causes uncoordinated movement, a strange gait and other neurological signs. Puppies can be born with the condition or older dogs can develop it later in life. There is a DNA test available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
