Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
From birth, our puppies are raised with puppy culture. We spend a lot of time playing, socialising and temperament-testing our babies. These little ones spend their days in their purposefully designed puppy area with 24 hour access to outside for toilet training and plenty of toys and climbing obstacles to help…
Health
All of our pure bred parents undergo thorough health testing before they are considered to join our breeding programme. This includes temprement testing, yearly veterinary checks prior to breeding and much more! Our dogs undergo extensive full breed profiling with Orivet, hip and elbow scoring.
Home environment
Our little ones are birthed and raised within our lounge room where they have 24 hour care and monitoring to ensure health and safety. Additional Tests
Pudoru Cocker Spaniels conducts 5 additional tests available for the Cocker Spaniel.
Genetic Test
Acral Mutilation Syndrome (AMS) is a genetic disease that causes affected dogs to compulsively lick, overgroom and bite their paws. This can cause recurrent injuries and infections. The condition can be extreme and even result in the dog being euthanised if the signs cannot be controlled.
Genetic Test
Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC) is a genetic condition mainly affecting Retrievers and Spaniels. It results in the dog collapsing after periods of intense exercise, even if they are normally able to cope with lower levels of exercise. There is a DNA test available which can indicate if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.
Physical Test
An eye certificate means the breeder has had their breeding dogs examined by a veterinary ophthalmologist, to confirm they are not affected by any eye conditions which may be passed down genetically to their puppies. If relevant for the breed, it also includes running DNA tests to confirm the dog is not a genetic carrier of hereditary eye diseases, such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA). It includes breeders who have participated in the Australian Canine Eye Scheme (ACES).
Genetic Test
Canine Phosphofructokinase (PFK) Deficiency is a genetic disease resulting in low levels of the PFK enzyme. It can result in extreme muscle fatigue, muscle cramping and severe anaemia. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
Physical Test
Dogs affected by patellar luxation have loose kneecaps that may pop in and out of the knee joint, which can be painful and even require surgery. Having a vet examine breeding dogs for patellar luxation can confirm the dog is not affected, and that their puppies are less likely to develop the condition. Patellar luxation is more common in smaller breeds.
