Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
My pups live in my bedroom for the first 3 weeks. Then they gradually are introduced to outside under the veranda close to my bedroom but inside at night. I spend a lot of time interacting with the pups & encourage people to do also. At 4-5 wks they stay outside through the night. I have a variety of interactive toys…
Health
Over the 26 yrs of rearing puppies I have found Raw feeding gives me the healthiest pups. I use natural worming practices & give supplements to support strong bones & joints. My pups have a much better muscle tone than when I was feeding biscuits. I also use herbal & homeopathy to strengthen their health. Of course…
Home environment
My dogs are family & brought up close to me. When it is hot, adult dogs & puppies have a big air conditioned room & in the colder months, protected & also brought inside in extreme cold or wet! I live on property & dogs & I enjoy morning walks.

Additional Tests
Rottgems Rottweilers conducts 3 additional tests available for the Rottweiler.
Physical Test
An eye certificate means the breeder has had their breeding dogs examined by a veterinary ophthalmologist, to confirm they are not affected by any eye conditions which may be passed down genetically to their puppies. If relevant for the breed, it also includes running DNA tests to confirm the dog is not a genetic carrier of hereditary eye diseases, such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA). It includes breeders who have participated in the Australian Canine Eye Scheme (ACES).
Genetic Test
Leukoencephalomyelopathy (LEMP) is a genetic neuromuscular disease. There is a DNA test available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
Physical Test
A mouth certificate indicates the dog has had its teeth examined for any missing or misaligned teeth and that its bite is correct. Dogs with overshot, undershot or misaligned jaws should not be bred. A poor bite or jaw problems can lead to more dental disease, ulcers, palate and lip problems.
