Bernard-Soulier Syndrome (BSS) is a genetic bleeding disorder caused by abnormally large platelets in low numbers, meaning an affected animal cannot form clots properly after tissue damage. It can lead to life-threatening bleeding issues following surgery or injury. There is a DNA test available to identify whether a breeding dog is carrying this condition.

It results in the dog collapsing after periods of intense exercise, even if they are normally able to cope with lower levels of exercise. Canine Phosphofructokinase (PFK) Deficiency is a genetic disease resulting in low levels of the PFK enzyme. It can result in extreme muscle fatigue, muscle cramping and severe anaemia. There is a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this condition.
