Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
Early socialisation is one of the most important parts of our breeding program. From the day they're born, our puppies are raised as part of our family and introduced to the sights, sounds and routines of everyday life. As they grow, every experience is introduced gradually and positively, allowing each puppy to…
Health
The health and wellbeing of our dogs is at the heart of everything we do. As a veterinary nurse, Alex oversees every stage of pregnancy, whelping and puppy development, ensuring every puppy receives knowledgeable, compassionate care from the day they're born. Our breeding dogs receive regular veterinary care, DNA…
Home environment
Our puppies are born and raised in our home on the Central Coast, where they're surrounded by the sights, sounds and routines of everyday family life from the very beginning. They begin life in our dedicated whelping room before gradually exploring more of our home and backyard as their confidence grows, giving them…
Included with our puppies
Every Tidepool puppy goes home with a thoughtfully prepared puppy pack to help make the transition to their new family as smooth as possible. We've included the products we genuinely use and trust ourselves to help make the transition as smooth as possible. Your puppy will receive: • A personalised puppy information…

Additional Tests
Tidepool Dachshunds conducts 4 additional tests available for the Miniature Dachshund.
Genetic Test
Mucopolysaccharidosis is a genetic lysosomal storage disease that can cause various problems including stunted growth and bone deformities. There are a few different variants of this disease that have been identified in different breeds. For many breeds there are DNA tests available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying the condition.
Genetic Test
Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL) is a neurodegenerative disorder found in many breeds of dog. 7 varieties have been identified so far, affecting different breeds. There are DNA tests for each type, to identify whether a breeding dog might be carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), also known as ‘brittle bone disease’, is an inherited disease in both humans and animals, causing bone fragility and fracturing. As it is a genetic disease, breeding parents can be tested to ensure it is not passed onto their puppies.
Genetic Test
Sarcoglycan Deficient Muscular Dystrophy (SDMD) is a genetic disease causing a stiff gait, exercise intolerance and difficulty swallowing in young Miniature Dachshunds. There is now a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.

Why we got involved in breeding
It all started with one very special dachshund who completely stole our hearts. We quickly fell in love with the miniature long-haired dachshund breed—their affectionate nature, playful personalities and unwavering loyalty—and knew we wanted to help preserve everything that makes them so special. Breeding became a…
Our special touch
Our dogs have always been family first, and that's something we'll never compromise on. They sleep on our couch, join us on adventures, and are involved in our everyday lives. We believe puppies raised as part of a family become confident, affectionate companions who transition naturally into their own forever homes.…
