Our Breeding Practices
Behaviour and socialisation
We practise puppy culture which involves socialising all our puppies in different environments before they go home, as well as putting some natural stressors on the puppies to get them accustomed to a variety of situations like being in water when being bathed, being groomed or lying on their backs. We also have…
Health
Breeding dogs are DNA tested through Orivet and are also regularly vet checked, and have been physically checked for conditions such as Patella Luxation. Our puppies are monitored and progress is recorded from the day they are born to ensure they are growing and developing at the optimal rate. At six weeks, pups…

Genetic Test
Mucopolysaccharidosis is a genetic lysosomal storage disease that can cause various problems including stunted growth and bone deformities. There are a few different variants of this disease that have been identified in different breeds. For many breeds there are DNA tests available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying the condition.
Genetic Test
Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL) is a neurodegenerative disorder found in many breeds of dog. 7 varieties have been identified so far, affecting different breeds. There are DNA tests for each type, to identify whether a breeding dog might be carrying this condition.
Genetic Test
Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), also known as ‘brittle bone disease’, is an inherited disease in both humans and animals, causing bone fragility and fracturing. As it is a genetic disease, breeding parents can be tested to ensure it is not passed onto their puppies.
Genetic Test
Sarcoglycan Deficient Muscular Dystrophy (SDMD) is a genetic disease causing a stiff gait, exercise intolerance and difficulty swallowing in young Miniature Dachshunds. There is now a DNA test available to identify if a breeding dog is carrying this disease.

About the Breeder
A little about us
Hi my name is Josephine (Josie) and I run Tincara Dachshunds with my husband Jason. We have had experiencing breeding animals for over 25 years, and began showing and breeding cats (ragdolls), then moved to property to breed our beloved dachshunds. We also started helping with rescue greyhounds and other breeds…
Why we got involved in breeding
Our family wanted a dachshund, and got our first dachshund out of Singleton 16 years ago. We fell in love with the breed, their nature and amazing personality and began breeding. Fun fact: our first dachie is still with us to this day. 😀
Our special touch
We concentrate on health, cleanliness, diet, welfare and temperament of our dogs. Socialisation, routine and freedom to move is core to our breeding program. All of our dogs and puppies are part of the family, and we spend time with each puppy indivdually, and we only breed with sires and dams that are suited for it.
